Chapter 37: False Gods

During the wait on Makkari, I hear Phastos occasionally celebrating with himself. So, I'm guessing he's almost finished with the Uni-Mind.

He worked hard on it, even if I wanted to help him now and then, but I guess the inventor is smart enough to do it on his own.

It's quiet as everyone is still scattered around the lab. Druig is sitting next to me, playing with my hands softly, and also caressing my arms.

It gives me shivers sometimes, but it also feels good, and in the meantime because of Phastos' powers, I hear the soft humming sound of his cosmic energy. It's a perfect combination of relaxing.

Only it didn't last long until Ikaris walked into the lab, making me look at him right away. However, something isn't right with this picture, as he's walking with his full armor on, and without Sersi whom he left with.

I thought those two sticked together until the end, but I guess that's not my priority. But, why is he in full armor?

My face has confusion written all over it, even for the others to not notice it yet, and while Phastos also noticed him quickly enough, he looks proud towards Ikaris for his creation of the Uni-Mind; the bracelets. But then, everything went downwards in a split of a second.

"I'm almost finished." Phastos said happily towards Ikaris, but that's when the energy suddenly is building inside Ikaris' body, using his laser eyes to destroy the bracelets in an instant!

My heart lumped into my throat as the Uni-Mind exploded to the side of the lab, sounding like a loud bang and the clattering of the metal, while everyone noticed it right away by standing up confused. But lucky enough, the metal didn't strike towards our faces, because then it would be another story.

However, what struck me the most, is Phastos who's caught in the explosion, making him land hard to the side of the lab, close to where Druig and I are seated. And he's groaning in pain. A lot of pain!

"Phastos!" I screamed in fear, as Druig and I let each other go, making my way off the table to help Phastos on the ground.

He's in pain, and because of that, my emotions are all over the place. Ikaris hurt Phastos! What the hell is he thinking?!

"Boss, what are you doing?!" Kingo asked him frantically as he's standing in front of Ikaris, and because of this event, all the Eternals are aware of the destruction Ikaris has made. They can't believe their eyes, just like me.

"I've let this go on long enough." Ikaris said sternly, looking at his fellow Eternals who are too stunned to speak.

But suddenly Sersi came running towards me. It all went so fast, I can't comprehend any of it, but luckily Sersi is here to help me Phastos get back on his feet.

"Don't hurt him!" Sersi shouted frantically, as she's worried for what Ikaris might will do to Phastos to even hurt him more. In the meantime, she and I helped the inventor get up, as he's ofcourse groaning in pain.

It wasn't until then I see Sersi crying heavily, looking towards Ikaris, while I am trying to help Phastos stand his ground. Something must have happened, right?!

"He lied to us. He already knew about the Emergence. How could I have been so stupid?" Sersi sobbed, as she can't believe her own words, and just like that, the rest also looked at each other confusingly.

I thought about her words, and somewhere it does make sense. But, didn't they know this already because of my memories? Or is there something more to the story?

"No, he didn't." Kingo said disagreeing, as his confused gaze switched from Sersi to Ikaris. And the rest, well, they can't comprehend this conversation at all.
