Separation from a Lover

As I held you in my arms, I knew
It would be too much of a risk loving you
When you put that ring on my finger, I cried
And not soon after, as I predicted, you died.

Love that cannot be fulfilled causes pain
Everything removes joy, it will all drain
I stagger to the window, and what do I see
The unfeeling sun shining down on me!

"It's not time to sleep, it's time to work!"
The sun makes it so I cannot for a second shirk
I rush around in this crowded world searching
As if I'm drunk, down the streets I'm lurching.

Collapsing into my bed, I receive no soothing
The covers are cold when you've been losing
Losing over and over, everything you love
They are all taken to the skies above.

The stars are your eyes watching me
The crescent moon your smile that I love to see
When they twinkle, I know you know my plight
So why don't they twinkle tonight?

Tears fill up the empty spaces in my bed
As I remember the last words you said
The light vanishing from your eyes, you spoke
"Isn't this such a joke?"

I had no way of knowing what you meant
How much time in thought you had spent
To realize that death is illusory
When in heaven, you will be waiting for me.

I stare up to the stars that are your eyes
Fill them up with my pained cries
And your embracing soul
Makes me whole.
