Brian sat at in his office, his phone in his hands as he slowly spun the chair around and around. He was on TikTok, watching his girlfriend Isabella, doing a live painting of Superion. If she only knew that he was Superion. Maybe, he should tell her. It has been over a month of dating now. She was the best thing that ever happened to him, and he didn't want to start their relationship with lies. His stomach flipped as he saw a notification that Robbie and another female superhero named Shift had just been sighted in a McDonald's restaurant in Emmersville. He sighed worriedly. He couldn't shake the forebodeing feeling that sooner or later, Robbie would find out and a fight would happen. He couldn't get Isabella mixed up in this, no matter how much he loved her. It was for the best.
He didn't know how Robbie would react to hearing the news, and the last thing he wanted was to find out that Isabella was kidnapped by Fortitude. Ben had suggested that he stay out of Emmersville and let Fortitude fight crime, unless Fortitude was incapable of fighting. So far, he had stayed out of Emmersville completely, but he kept an ear out for any major problems, just in case. As Brian was deep in thought, his office door flew open, revealing Mark, who's face was as bright as a 300 kilowatt stadium bulb. Brian raised an eyebrow at his enthusiastic co-worker. "Hey Mark. What's up? Did the board like your comic?" Mark chuckled. Did the board like it? They absolutely ate it up!!! The loved it! This is all thanks to your genius. I swear, I am gonna repay you BIG for this one!" Brian got up out of his chair, shaking his head. "Nope. I can't take the credit. That credit rightfully belongs to you and the rest of the editing team. Congratulations!" Extending his hand, Brian gave Mark a bright smile, only to be drawn into a bearhug. Mark finally let go, wiping his tears of joy. "Me and and the rest of the guys are gonna swing by The Twelve Taverns later after work, you gotta join us! Drinks are on me." Brian ran his hand through his hair. He had set reservations at a restaurant tonight for him and Isabella. She was bringing her family and his was supposed to bring his. This wasn't good. He wanted to go with Mark, but Isabella also needed him. This was tough.
Ben sat at the top floor of his building sitting in his favourite chair. The room was semi-lit, with only the windows and a small table light providing the room with a dark, quiet hue. However, Ben wasn't looking at work, or at new business proposals. He had turned his chair towards the window, staring outside. All his mind could replay, was Brian's statement, that Fortitude had the potential to become even stronger than Superion himself. If Fortitude was as potentially powerful as Brian said, they had to make sure that they had weapons and gadgets to stop him, otherwise, he would be unstoppable. Ben clicked the top of his favorite pen on and off. He didn't want to have to do this, but it was better to be practical than idealistic. He needed to find Fortitude's weakness. Opening his drawer, he reached his hand to the far back, opening a secret compartment. Reaching into the secret compartment, he felt his way around until he found two circular objects. Taking them out, he quickly dusted them off, inspecting the object. It was a sonar bomb. It didn't damage property, but it caused abberants with super hearing to feel tremendous pain in their ears, causing it to vibrate until it bursts. He hadn't ever used it before, and he didn't want to have to use it now. But he had to keep it stored. Just in case.
Brian was about to answer when Mark's phone rang. Taking out the phone, Mark exclaimed: "Oh crap I'm late for an appointment at the dentist! Call me if you can make it Brian." Brian nodded, watching the man rush out of the office. He couldn't go to The Twelve Taverns, he had dinner with Isabella planned. He had to cancel. Sighing, he put down his phone and actually began to review comics. Being a comics reviewer meant that he didn't need to actually write a comic, just read them and highlight the flaws or perfections of the storyline. He also had to check for storyline continuity and make sure that the story arcs weren't too far fetched. Though it was a lot of work, Brian enjoyed it. It gave him a shot to do something that didn't require using his abilities, just training regular skills. That didn't mean that he didn't ever use his powers to work. Sometimes when being Superion takes away the time he needs to do work, a little super reading goes a long way. That way, he is able to complete his work and to save lives. Brian flipped through the first few pages of a new comic, THE ADVENTURES OF THE ELECTRIC EEL, when he heard a scream for help. Brian flew out of his chair, causing it to rapidly spin. He flew straight through the opened window and into the skies so quickly, that no one saw him leave. In the air, Brian put the S on his chest, letting the nanites form his suit. Taking out his contacts, he put them in a special compartment in his suit. Booming through the sky, he flew all the way to Antarctica, where a team of researchers got stuck in a submarine, which was sinking to the ocean floor. Diving into the frigid water, Superion propelled himself to the site of the submarine, catching it. Quickly going under the sub, he lifted it, pushing it back to the ocean's surface. Pushing it back on to the thick ice, he saw a pair of hand marks, realizing that the submarine hadn't sunk accidentally. It was a purposeful act, and he knew exactly who did it.
Hey hey hey! What's up my lil bookworms? Doing ok? Well, I hope this chapter makes your day. Brian is gonna have to turn down Mark's offer of going to The Twelve Taverns, due to his date with Isabella. Ben is Fortifying himself to go to war with Fortitude. (See what I did there? Fortifying, Fortitude?) So anyways, I hope you enjoy this chapter! Tell me what you think in the comments! Here is a cookie 🍪 and some milk 🥛 Peace ✌️!
