The next six months, years flew by. JJ was six and entering first grade, while Kalea just turned six months. Five-O continued to work, and Abbie had been recently promoted to Sergeant through HPD. Everything was going well.

Or so she thought.

"Are you happy?"

The question broke the comfortable silence that had fallen between the two.

The couple were lying in bed getting ready to go to sleep.

"What?" Abbie was taken aback by the question that still hung in the air.

"Are you happy?" he repeated, "Here. In Hawaii."

Abbie turned to face her husband, the concern in her eyes evident.

"Steve what is going on?"

He sighed, "When I came back here, I hit the ground running and I haven't stopped since," he began, "I love you, more than anything. And the family that we built together. But I just feel like I've spent the last ten years protecting everyone else."

"And not yourself."

"Yeah," Steve sighed, "Man I sound selfish."

"Hey, listen to me McGarrett," she gently placed her hands on her husband's cheek, "You are the most selfless man I have ever met," a small smile appeared, "You have put this family, the team, my god, this island in front of yourself. You deserve to put yourself first," Abbie remained quiet for a moment, "So now what?"

"I don't know," he sighed, "But I know I can't find it here."

"Find what?"

"Peace."

Her heart shattered for the man in front of her. The last ten years of his life had been riddled with one tragedy after another. "Then if leaving Hawaii is what you need, we'll do it."

He closed his eyes for a moment. Is this what I really want? Do I want to take my kids away from the only home they've ever known? " I can't do that here. There's too many memories."

"Then we're leaving Hawaii."

He smiled. It felt good to smile again, "You'd do that me for me?"

"I'd do anything for you."

"What about you?" he worried, "All you've ever wanted was to be a cop."

She looked at him with the same twinkle in her eye from their wedding day, "I can be a cop anywhere. You Steve McGarrett are one of a kind."

"Don't do that."

"Do what?"

"I actually want to talk to you," Danny told his best friend as they sat in the backyard of the McGarrett home, "Don't deflect. I'm..I'm concerned about you I want to have a real conversation."

"Okay," Steve took a deep breath, "Look man, I don't know when it happened, but something changed. I've been doing this for so long now I...," he took another deep breath, "I kind of feel like I've been protecting everybody but myself."
