"Bye Mira" Aryan shouts from his seat. I was about to exit the classroom but turned around when I heard his voice.

I looked around to see people noticed that and I got awkwardly immediately. I simply smiled at him and left the classroom with Meera.

It was officially the end of the first day of school and I already had so many concerns. "Finally it's over" Meera sighed next to me.

"I can't believe we were forced to sit apart" She said. "I know right it's so unfair" I added on.

"Oh that's my car gotta go bye" Meera pointed to her car before she waved me goodbye.

I watched her climb into her car and it drove off. I, on the other hand, looked around and viewed my options.

Our car and the driver is obviously reserved for Mehek and Rehan. Despite the driver, she won't let my uncle drive me either.

I knew my aunt wasn't going to give me any money for travelling, considering she barely gives me anything for food.

I only get a certain amount and decided to save to take the auto in the morning so I'm not late to school.

"Walking it is" I murmured to myself. Our house isn't too far even by a walking distance but a bus would definitely be more easier.

I didn't like taking the bus because I had a terrible experience from it that I don't like to talk about or even think about.

I started walking home under the hot sun. I looked down at my shoes and wondered how I was going to get away with this.

I got distracted from my thoughts when I heard music blasting. I looked around to see where it was coming from.

I was standing at the footpath amongst several passerby when I saw Aryan's bike with his friends' vehicles behind him.

"That must be nice" I whispered. I watched them ride off and disappeared in seconds. I continued walking down the busy street.

I panted loudly and stopped for a moment in front of my main door to catch my breath. My head was literally burning from the heat.

I opened the door and walked inside. The only thing on my mind was drinking cold water.

I could hear Mehek and Rehan already having lunch and watching a movie on the tv even though I'm never allowed to do that.

I took off my shoes without looking and I made the mistake of forgetting they were all muddy.

I walked past my cousins who were too busy to notice me and went straight into the kitchen. My aunt was on the stove making roti.

"Ghar aane ka naam le liya" [Finally decided to come home] My aunt taunted me. I didn't reply and poured myself a glass of cold water.

"Oh princess if you're done treating yourself finish this off and bring to my kids" with that she walked out of the kitchen.

I took a deep breath and shook my head. I washed the glass and made my way to the stove.

My stomach growled and my head pounded out of exhaustion and hunger. I flipped the last roti and waited patiently.

I heard my aunt scream my name from the living room. I figured it was because she had no patience and wanted her kids to eat more.

I turned off the stove once the last roti was done and placed it with the others before walking out of the kitchen.

"Here you go sorry" I placed the plate on the table in front of my cousins. I looked at their smug faces and wondered what was wrong.

I looked to my right and saw my aunt standing angrily, staring at me. I glanced down and noticed my shoes in her hands. Oh fuck.

"Mehek and Rehan take your food to your rooms" My aunt instructed my cousins. I gulped hard knowing I'm completely screwed.

"Come here" She gestured. She wasn't shouting but that was just the calm before the actual storm.

I stood right in front of her waiting for her to shout at me. She raised her hand and I immediately knew where this was going.

First slap. I tried to remain strong but did not meet her eyes. "You did this on purpose because of this morning didn't you?"

Second slap. My tears flowed down my cheeks but I tried to soften my sobs. "So that you can prove to your uncle you shouldn't walk to school" She said angrily.

Third slap. "That will never work and I will make sure of that" I flinched when she shouted, "Do you hear me?!" Fourth slap.

I nodded and then immediately said, "Ye–yes" I knew she would've hit me again if I only nodded and didn't say anything.

She finally sent me to my room and told me to stay in there until the next morning. I rushed upstairs and locked my door behind me.

I moved to my window and sat down with tears still flowing down my cheeks. I held my knuckles in my mouth to prevent any sound.

I didn't want anyone to hear me especially my uncle in case he comes home. I knew that would make everything worse if he notices.

I cried my heart out silently and desperately prayed for the day I get to leave this awful house and it's family.

I was able to let out my feelings since I was alone but little did I know someone from the house opposite was watching me.
