Suhana came into my room. "Hey" She said softly. "Hey you okay?" I asked her. "I just cant get my mind off everything" She told me. I couldn't see my sister in such a state."Hey come on cheer up let's do something tonight" I would do anything to get her mind to focus on something else. "Really?" She asked as she plopped onto my bed.
"Yeah of course anything you want" I told her. She thought for a moment. "There is this new cafe that I wanna go to" She told me. "Okay sure let's go" I said.
"Yayy okay let me get ready" She rushed out of my room excitedly and I got up to get ready myself. In about ten minutes I got into the car and Suhana was already inside.
"So where we going?" I asked her. "I already told him" She pointed at our driver. "Put some music" She told me. We jammed to the music throughout the drive.
"Sue isn't this the way to our farmhouse?" I asked looking out the window. "I guess so maybe the cafe is nearby" She said casually but I could feel something was wrong.
"What's the cafe called?" I pried. "Uhm it's–" She fiddled with her fingers. "I don't know I forgot" I turned her to me. "Suhana Khan where are we going?" I asked sternly.
"Our farmhouse" She mumbled. "Why?" She started to panic. "Urgh okay fine" She finally gave in. "I have a surprise for you" She said.
"You've been so upset I wanted to cheer you up" She confessed."Fine but there better not be a lot of people there" I said to her. I was in no mood of meeting people right now. "There better be food I'm starving" I told her.
We pulled to our farmhouse and stepped out of the car. There was silence all around. It was a little to silent. "Just at least pretend to be surprised" Suhana requested.
I walked in through the door and saw the entire room decorated with candles and flowers. I didn't spot anyone there so I turned to Suhana but she had disappeared.
I turned back to the room and now Mira was standing in front of me. I gasped and stumbled back. "Oh sorry I didn't mean to scare you" She held on to me.
"What're doing here?" I asked taking my hand away from her. "I want you to listen to me" She said. "I have the right to give you an explanation" I scoffed.
"Rehan talked to Suhana" She said. "She believes him" I looked at her with disbelief. "Think about it. Will your sister ever believe something so easily?" She asked.
I knew she wouldn't. Suhana is quite smart. She wouldn't have brought me here if she didn't truly believe them. "Okay I'll listen" I told her.
We both walked further into the room as she started explaining herself. "Since then I've been living with my aunt and uncle" I felt bad she had to go through so much at such a young age.
"I don't know what I did to her. Maybe it was because I was an extra financial burden but my aunt never treated me like her own" She said. "And she would take her anger out on me...physically" She said softly.
My mind went back to the night of the hospital. "Those scars..." She nodded. "All her" She told me. "I'm counting my days for when I turn eighteen and can leave this house" Tears fell down her cheeks.
"I was happy with you but Rehan saw you in our house" I listened carefully. "I knew if he told my aunt she would–she wou–I was just scared" She confessed.
"I didn't know how far she would go and I was scared" She cried to me. "I'm sorry I did this but I felt like I had no choice" She said. "And don't blame Rehan he's only a kid" I found it sweet that she was still defending him.
"So are you" I told her. "What?" She looked at me. I held her by her arms. "You are just a kid. You shouldn't have to go through all of this" I told her.
"When you told me Rehan saw me and you didn't want him to tell your aunt I thought you were just scared of a scolding I didn't know she was abusive" I confessed.
"I'm sorry I didn't listen" She shook her head and let her head fall on my chest. I planted a light kiss on her head and held her close. I don't know how long we stood there but it felt right that we did.
As soon as all of us went home, I went straight to my parents room. I saw both of them sleeping in their bed. I walked over quietly so I wouldn't wake my mother up.
I lightly shook my dad to wake him up. "Papa" I whispered. "Hm?" He said groggily. He rubbed his eyes. "Can I please talk to you?" I asked him.
"What time is it?" He asked while falling back asleep. "Please papa it's important" I begged him. "Okay" He said knowing I won't give up. I walked out of their room and waiting for him.
He closed his bedroom door quietly as he stepped out to the living room. "Okay what is it?" He asked as he sat down next to me. I started telling him everything about Mira and her family.
I noticed the change in his expression. I knew he was getting angry. "I need your help papa. Mira needs your help" I begged him. He nodded and patted my back.
"We'll help her I promise" He assured me.
