Chapter 8: The Feelings of Edward Rosier.

The Enchanted Diary conversations between James And Flora continued and they talked almost every day. They mostly talked about their future, their classes but they often had to be careful during such topics to not give too much information which could lead to their identity being revealed.

"Tell me about your family. I've said so much and I've noticed that you don't talk much about them." James wrote one evening.

"There isn't much to say." She wrote after much deliberation on how she should avoid this topic.

James wanted to know about her family since she had never talked about them. James knew how some families could be tough because of his friend Sirius Black and sohe wanted her to know that she could talk to him about them. "You can tell me anything you want." He wrote encouragingly.

"I've never talked with anyone about this. It's hard to say." She wrote back.

"That's why you can tell me. I don't even know who you are."

"You have a point there. I don't like to talk about this but my parents aren't with us anymore. They passed away before I even got to Hogwarts." It was hard for her to tell this to anyone but she figured the stranger would be a good place to start.

James was not prepared for this and he got nervous. She was his friend and he wanted her to feel comfortable with him. "I'm sorry to hear that. It must have been tough to do this. I'm glad you told me though. Just know I'll always be here if you want to talk about them." He wrote.

"That means a lot, Stranger. Thank you". She was happy and relieved.

"Will you tell me more about them?"

And so the conversation went on till three the next morning. She told him about her mother and father, their relationship and how lovely they were. She also told him about her step mother and half sisters. She told him about Karla being a terrible parental figure for her and Cath and Kimberly always bullying her. This was the first time she told anyone about them and she felt like she could exhale now. Telling him all of that was tough but she did it. She was careful not to mention that they were muggles or any other specific details. She also told him about how she believed in soulmates because of her parents. She was glad to hear that the stranger was a romantic at heart too.

The next day James received a package from his mother containing his Auror costume. He wanted to be an Auror after he graduated so he decided on an Auror costume. Mathias was going as Professor Dumbledore, his grand uncle, and he had already made sure to buy robes of the same color as that of Evanna's. Sirius was going as Stubby Boardman, a look alike, lead singer of his favorite musical group The Hobgoblins and Remus Lupin was going as Newt Scamander, the author of his favourite book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Flora was tired already of everybody talking about the upcoming costume ball. It was on the twenty- third of December but it had been the topic of conversation since the last one month. Lily, Alice and Marlene were having a heated conversation over who should go as Salazar Slytherin. The four girls had decided to go as Hogwarts founders since Flora was not going. Evanna had already chosen Godric Gyrffindor. After the fight which was only resolved through Flora's intervention, the costumes were decided. Marlene was going as Helga Hufflepuff, Alice as Rowena Ravenclaw and Lily as Slytheirn.

It was the week before the ball and Edward Rosier had decided he was gonna ask Flora to be his dance partner for the ball. It took much confidence and encouragement from Severus who was tired of Edward always talking about Flora or dreamily staring at her. Severus had known about Edward's crush even before Edward himself realized. It was much like his love for Lily which he was not sure how it would work. It was already hard for them to hang together as friends. They could only meet at certain places like the Library or the Black Lake so the other Slytherin's especially Edward's brother, Felix, didn't see them.

Edward had approached Lily after their Potions lessons together. Flora had already left with Evanna. Edward felt deflated when Lily told him that Flora was not going to the ball. Lily was shocked when Edward told her that he wanted to ask Flora to the ball. She felt upset having to tell Edward but Flora never went to any of the Ball's and there was no way to convince her. He went back to the Slytherin common room having lost all hopes and joined Mulciber and Avery near the windows. They were reading a book about the dark arts which was banned from Hogwarts and Edward decided to do the same to forget about his feelings for Flora.
