"Everybody's looking for something."
---

"Out of all the things you could possibly tell me to shock me to the core, Derek being alive was not one that crossed my mind," I say to Scott as I sit on the railing of the steps that lead up to the school, hands thumbing through a stack of fliers for the Winter Formal.

"Not so loud!" he says as he moves to cover my mouth. I move my head away from him, narrowing my eyes. In the week since the full moon – since Scott kissed me – he eventually came to his senses and apologized sincerely. I may have accepted the apology, but I still haven't gotten past him kissing me and saying...all that about me. I'm still weary of him getting close to me. Scott moves his hand away, obviously able to sense my apprehension to his proximity and he nods. "Sorry."

I lick my lips, flipping through the stack of fliers to make sure they're all acceptable to be placed around the school. "But seriously, what is he?" I question. "A cockroach? Those bitches just never die."

"He's trying to help me –"

"Kill the Alpha, yeah, I got that part," I interject with an eye roll, looking up from the stack. "The thing I don't get is why you guys were reenacting Tokyo Drift in his car while the police and Allison's family were chasing him."

"Well, he needed our help!" Scott exclaims in defense. "He also found out that his sister's research on the Alpha had something to do with Mr. Harris and some kind of symbol."

Scott pulls his phone out of his pocket, showing me a picture of the symbol he mentioned. I tilt my head, looking at it – a large, monstrous wolf-looking creature. "I've seen that before," I say, recalling Allison's birthday two weeks prior. "That's the same symbol on Allison's necklace." I shake my head as Scott pockets his phone again and Stiles, walks up to us, joining us outside of the school. "I don't understand, what does her necklace and a chemistry teacher have to do with the Alpha?"

"Derek said that the last time he spoke to his sister, she was on to something about the alpha, and it had to do with those two things," Stiles explains, jumping right into the conversation.

"He says that there's a way to cure what I am; I have to kill the one who bit me, so if we get the necklace, it could lead us to the Alpha," Scott adds. "Which means, we have to get it somehow."

The two look at me slowly and I shake my head quickly. "No," I say sternly.

Scott's mouth drops open. "But you're her –"

"No," I interject.

"Would you just think about –"

"No!" I exclaim.

"I thought you wanted to help us!" Scott exclaims, sounding slightly offended.

"Yeah, but I consider her a friend," I point out. "Even though I haven't exactly spoken to her in the last week or told her what happened, I don't want our next conversation to be hey, your ex-boyfriend kissed me, by the way can I have your very important family necklace for a few days." I raise an eyebrow at their dejected faces. "Especially because the night of the full moon, I think her family was watching us. When Stiles and I drove into the Preserve onto that crime scene, I saw a car sitting in the distance that looked like the one Allison's dad drives."
