*Trigger warning for gun violence this chapter, mostly canon to the show*

"So, this kid's the real killer?" Sheriff Stilinski asks as Scott, Stiles, and I stand in Stiles' room. We have a yearbook open the desk with Matt's picture circled and arrows pointing to it. Considering what Scott and I just saw as the party was dispersing, I'd say that, yes, Matt's the real killer.

"Yeah," Stiles answers.

Sheriff Stilinski shakes his head. "No."

"Yes!"

"No."

"Dad, come on!" Stiles exclaims, getting up from the desk chair. "Everybody knows that the police look for ways to connect victims in a murder, okay? So, all he had to do is, like, look through their transcripts and figure out which class they all had in common."

"Yeah, except for the fact that the rave promoter, Kara, wasn't in Harris's class," Sheriff Stilinski points out.

"We're still missing a link," I mutter, folding my arms over my chest.

"All right. Okay, you're right. Sorry," Stiles tells his dad sarcastically. "Then, I guess they dropped the charges against him?"

"No, you know what?" his dad responds irritably, pointing an accusatory finger Stiles' way. "They're not dropping the charges. But that doesn't prove anything." Stiles goes to say something, but the sheriff turns to Scott and me. "Scott, Ainsley, do you believe this?"

"Oh," Stiles mutters out, offended.

Scott and I glance at each other before Scott answers, "It's really hard to explain how we know this, but you just gotta trust us."

"We know it's Matt," I add.

"Yeah, he took Harris's car, okay?" Stiles continues. "Look, he knew that if a cop found tire tracks at one of the murders, and that if enough of the victims were in Harris's class, that they'd arrest him."

"All right, fine," Sheriff Stilinski agrees. "I'll allow the remote possibility. But give me a motive. I mean, why would this kid want most of the 2006 swim team and its coach dead?

"Isn't it obvious?" Stiles asks and we all look at him expectantly. "Our swim team sucks! They haven't won in, like, six years!" I roll my eyes and shake my head as the look on the sheriff's face turns to annoyance once again. Stiles sighs. "Okay, we don't have a motive yet. I mean, come on, does Harris?"

"What do you want me to do?" Sheriff Stilinski asks.

"We need to look at the evidence," Scott tells him.
