SMOKE AND MIRRORS
"If the morning light don't steal our soul, we will walk away from empty gold."
---Noah closes his office door with an assertive slam before he whirls around to face us, raising an authoritative finger our way. "You two are not going to Mexico," he states firmly.
"Dad, Scott and Kira have been kidnapped and taken to Mexico, okay?" Stiles reminds his dad as we stand in his office the following day. He his arms are flailing around while my arms are crossed over my maroon sweater. "I think that's a pretty good reason for a trip to Mexico!"
"Okay," Noah agrees, walking over to his desk. "Even if Deaton is right about this—"
"Yeah . . . " Stiles drawls quietly, bouncing on his feet.
"The best thing to do is to go through the proper channels," Noah finishes and I sigh, running a hand through my blonde hair.
"Dad—" Stiles starts, placing his hand on his father's desk, only to be cut off by his father once more.
"That means calling the right law enforcement agencies, border patrol, putting out an all-points," his dad finishes, his voice an octave louder.
"Noah, with all due respect, I'm not sure we can just wait around for the wheels of bureaucracy to start spinning in five different government offices," I say with a sigh. "Kate is capable of a lot right now. Someone needs to go down there right now, find them, and rescue them." I exchange glances with Stiles, who nods at me. "We have to go."
"I can keep you from going," Noah warns.
"We'd find a way," Stiles replies defiantly.
"I can throw you two in a cell!" Noah exclaims.
"We'd still find a way," Stiles rebuttals.
"I wouldn't mind bringing even more shame to my father's name as an FBI agent," I challenge. "In fact, I'd do it just to spite him, so breaking out of a cell is nothing to me. You'd actually be doing me a favor."
Noah sighs at our responses. "Ainsley, Stiles, please, just give me a little more time to verify something slightly more concrete than a psychic vision by some guy with a third eye," he pleads as he walks back toward the door.
"I'll admit no sane person would drill a hole into their head and claim to have psychic visions," I agree. "But even if Dr. Valack is locked away in Eichen House, we can't afford to ignore any lead we may have. You don't have to trust Valack, but trust Deaton."
Dr. Valack is definitely aboard the crazy train because there's no way he's like me.
"Look, I will call every law enforcement agency all the way down to South America if I have to," Noah reasons. "If nothing turns up, then I'll book three flights to Mexico. We'll all go. Okay?"
