"We only notice light when darkness crashes against it."

Scott and Malia head out into the woods to look for Liam and Hayden while Lydia and I get the full story from Mason about another chimera that he'd found. Apparently, it's the same Corey who was in the hospital with the scorpion sting in his arm. Since the Dread Doctors destroyed the cell phone jammers, I can use my phone to call Stiles, but when he doesn't pick up, anxiety pools in the pit of my stomach.

Please, God, just let Liam and Stiles be okay. Please, please, please.

Without a second thought, my mind racing in so many directions, I run out to my car, get in, and driver over to the animal clinic. What I see when I get there makes me stop short, my head smacking the headrest on the back of my seat as I do. Theo is lifting Stiles' Jeep to turn it back on the wheels and Stiles is sitting off to the side.

Okay, but why did Theo have to turn Stiles' Jeep back on the wheels?

I slam my car into park, opening the door and stepping out onto the asphalt, running over to the two.

Not Stiles. Not Stiles. Please, just let my brother and my boyfriend be safe.

I notice that it smells like smoke, as if there had been a fire, and I look at the two of them, wanting to know just what the fresh hell happened here.

"Ainsley . . . " Theo starts.

"Did you find them?" I ask quickly. "The person taking the bodies?"

"They came," Stiles says from where he's seated on the ground. "But we didn't get to see them."

I look over at him, squinting in the darkness of the night. His face looks dark and I step closer to him, kneeling down to inspect it. I gasp slightly when I realize that his face is covered in blood spatter. "What—What—"

"I'm okay, Ainsley," Stiles assures me as he gets to his feet. "It's not mine, I'm okay."

My eyes burn with relief for Stiles being okay. I take a few deep breaths, stepping forward to wrap my arms around his torso. He wraps his around me just the same, squeezing me tightly.

Through the tightness in my throat, I say, "Liam's gone." Stiles stiffens and I pull away slightly to look up at him. His eyes are filled with concern. "He and Hayden—they're gone. The Dread Doctors took them."

"Why would they want Liam?" Stiles asks. "He's not a chimera."

I shake my head. "I don't know," I answer, my throat tightening. "But Stiles, we—we . . . I have to find him. He—He's my little brother. I can't—"

"We'll find him," Stiles assures me. "Is anyone out looking for them now?"

I nod. "Scott and Malia," I reply, releasing a sigh. "I just . . . I can't—" I cut off my stammering as Stiles pulls me closer to him. He wreaks of smoke and metal and I lift my head off of his chest, asking, "What happened here?"
