"Would it be enough if I could never give you peace?"

"Berserkers?" I question Scott as I walk outside toward the lacrosse field with the team the next morning.

Scott nods. "Yeah, that's what I said."

"What the hell is a Berserker, Scott?" I press further, folding my arms across my purple, button down shirt and black leather jacket. "Berserkers like the Old Norse legend where they would fight so furiously it was like they were in a trance?"

Sighing, Scott adjusts his lacrosse bag and explains, "No, like Germanic warriors that wore the skin of bears to channel their ferocity." I raise my eyebrows, not really understanding why they were so dangerous if they were just men. "But they didn't just wear them—they became them."

Oh, so that's why it's bad.

"I really wish I hadn't asked," I mumble, shaking my head. "And they attacked you and Malia at the school last night?"

"And it's what Malia saw when we were in Mexico," Scott adds. "What she ran after and caught a scent of."

"They followed us here?" I question, looking between Scott and Stiles, who nod and shrug respectively. "Awesome, you know—this is just what I wanted to hear. It's just—this is so great."

"Look, I know that this is miniscule compared to that, but," Scott interjects my sarcastic tangent, looking at Stiles and me, "do you think I'm still team captain?"

"Scott!" I hiss, smacking his arm repeatedly. "We have three potential threats in our town and that's what you're worried about!"

Stiles places his hand on my shoulder to stop me from hitting our friend and looks at Scott. "Of course you're still the team captain," he says to Scott and I sigh, throwing my hands up. "You got your grades up, just like Coach told you to, right?"

"Yeah, but he never told me I was back on the team," Scott answers. "He just told me to show up at try-outs today."

"We got bigger things to deal with, anyway," Stiles reminds him and I nod lightly at his segway back to the actual important conversation. "Did you tell Argent yet?"

"Uh, I texted him, but he didn't get back to me," Scott responds.

I tilt my head, eyes widening as I raise a hand. "Hold up," I say. "You told Argent that his sister Kate came back from the dead over a text?"

Sheepishly, Scott shrugs. "I didn't have the money to call France."

My stance softens a bit. I understand that. With the amount of hospital bills I've racked up in the last year, money had been kind of tight at home. I'm luckier than most, since I live in a dual income household and David is a doctor, but I definitely emptied my college fund just trying to pay for the hospital rooms and surgeries.
