"I can't help this awful energy. Goddamn right, you should be scared of me; who is in control?"
---"Oh, my God!" Lydia shrieks as I pull into the school parking lot and I'm glad that I decided to drive this morning because if I hadn't been behind the wheel, I'm sure her car would be in a ditch right now.
"It's not –" I go to say, but Lydia cuts me off with another shriek.
"Oh, my God!"
I pull into a spot and slam my truck into park, looking over at my strawberry blonde friend. Her eyes are wide, mouth parted in shock, yet somehow still smiling at the same time. I release a sigh and focus my eyes on the steering wheel. "It's not a big deal," I say, thankful I have not been interrupted this time.
"Yes, it is!" Lydia exclaims. "It's a huge deal! You and Stiles kissed in the locker room a few weeks ago!"
"Keep your voice down," I plead through my teeth, looking over my shoulder to make sure no one heard her obnoxiously loud exclamation. I turn back to her, shaking my head. "Okay, so we kissed in the locker room. It's been almost two months and he's said nothing about it."
"Have you said anything about it?" Lydia asks, raising an eyebrow.
"No," I reply, slumping in the driver's seat. "But...I don't know, it just – it probably didn't mean anything to him."
"You don't know that," Lydia tells me, shaking her head.
I scoff. "I know that he had just calmed down from a panic attack and probably couldn't decipher his emotions correctly," I argue.
"You said that he leaned in first," Lydia points out, shrugging easily.
"It was actually kind of mutual," I sigh. My brow creases as I recall the moments leading up to the kiss in the locker room. Did he lean in first? Did he actually lean in at all? Or did I just imagine it and totally take advantage of him? "Oh, my God, what if that wasn't even what he intended to do? I kissed him during a panic attack, that's like...he didn't consent to it."
"Ainsley, hey," Lydia says calmly, snapping her fingers to get my attention. "I think he would have said something by now if it were what he didn't want. I mean, how long did it take you to go after Scott when he kissed you without your consent."
"Literally three hours," I respond with a frown, a loud buzzing in my ear startling me. I swat my hand at it, figuring a fly must have gotten into the car through the window.
"See?" Lydia asks. "Just relax." I shoot her a look. Easier said than done. Settling against the front seat, I drop my head against the headrest and release another sigh. "So, when's the wedding?"
My fingers fly to the unlock button and the sound of the doors doing just that echoes throughout the car. Lifting my other hand, I point right past Lydia's face to the door she's sitting next to. "Get out," I demand. "Get out of my car, now."
