"I'd rather run the other way than stay and see the smoke and who's still standing when it clears."
---*There is some potentially triggering material in this chapter if you squint, but I just want to be sure I mention it*
"If Jackson doesn't know what he's doing, then he probably doesn't know someone's controlling him," Allison says as we sit on her bed, cross-legged with my phone in the middle of us.
After calling Stiles to inform him and Scott about the discovery Lydia made with the translation of the bestiary, we're trying to figure out who could be controlling him.
"Or he doesn't remember," Scott suggests.
"What if it's the same kind of thing that happened with Lydia when she took off from the hospital?" Stiles offers.
I knit my brow, frowning curiously. "A fugue state."
"He'd have to forget everything," Scott realizes. "The murder –"
"Getting rid of the blood –" Allison continues.
"He had help with one thing, though," I remind everyone. "The video."
"And someone else helped him forget that," Stiles says.
"Whoever's controlling him," Scott mutters.
"Are you sure Jackson has no clue about any of this?" Allison asks.
"He thinks he's still becoming a werewolf and that being with Lydia somehow delayed the whole thing," Stiles explains.
"So, do we try and convince him he's not?" I ponder, raising an eyebrow, even though Scott and Stiles can't see it.
"If it helps us find out who's controlling him, then yeah," Scott replies.
"Do you think he'll talk to us after what we did?" Allison inquires, meeting my own disbelieving eyes with her own.
"Yeah, it's us! He'll talk to us, right?" Stiles responds easily.
Before I can voice my doubt, Stiles quickly ends the call. I frown at it, muttering, "Rude," as I take my phone back and look up at Allison. Her face is set into a pensive frown and she's gnawing at her bottom lip.
We're completely stumped on what to do next, and it's starting to eat at her.
---
The following morning, I make our way into the library from one of the back entrances, spotting Allison entering from the front one. According to a very hectic and spastic phone call I received from Stiles after getting home from Allison's last night, Jackson now has a restraining order against both Stiles and Scott, so it makes talking to Jackson a lot more difficult now. On top of that, Allison can hardly converse with any of us in school because Gerard has installed so many cameras everywhere – it's honestly starting to feel illegal. I slowly make my way toward some of the shelves where Stiles told us to me him and Scott. Spotting the two causally going through books, I make it to the row just as Allison gets there. I pretend to be interested in the books on the shelf as Allison, keeping her voice low as she reaches into her bag, pulls a small tablet out of her bag, sliding it through the shelf for Scott to take. "It's everything Lydia can translate," she tells him.
