Jacobe POV
In my haste to get Emily seen by a doctor, I shouted out but everyone just stood still. They were just staring at us and I got angry.
"GET. A. DOCTOR. NOW. DONT. MAKE. ME. ASK. AGAIN." This time I did not shout, but they moved as if I did. They all had adopted the same scared look on their faces.
"If only they had moved the first time, they wouldn't be scared," I thought to my self as I followed a nurse into a room. The room had an empty bed, and the nurse helped me lay her down.
By the time she was lain down, a doctor ran into the room. When he saw Emily he rushed over to her to check her pulse. Relieved he could feel it, he went to her bloody arm.
"What happened? I see that tou are injured as well, but seeing as you're still standing, I assume its not as dire as this woman. I'll send for another doctor to tend to you and the infant," he said as he examined her.
"Thats not necessary for myself. Im fine. But I would like to have the baby checked. My companion was shot in the arm by bandits," I quickly replied. I couldn't tell him that I had been healed. It happened right after the sword melted, my earth magic pulled some life energy from the earth around me and healed me
The doctor hadn't looked at me until I replied. When he did, I could tell he was scrutinizing me. It did not bother me, as I was doing the same.
He was an older doctor, probably in his 50's. Graying hair and a medium build. He wasn't too fat or too skinny, and had a good amount of muscle. This doctor was in great shape. He was a dark honey color, with dark green eyes. No, wait gray.
"Is his eyes changing colors?" I asked myself as his eyes went back to the dark green. It was only then I noticed he was still staring at me.
"I'm not the one you're examining, doctor. Look at her," I stated firmly and the doctor went back to looking at Emily.
"What's wrong with her? Did she loose too much blood? Is she poisoned?" I asked after a few minutes of the doctor not saying anything.
"Yes, well it does appear she did suffer from a lot of blood loss. Looking at the coloring of the wound, it does appear to be poisoning. I also see traces of infection starting to creep in. First I will need to sterilize the wound, before trying to figure out which poison was used." He said as he began cutting off her whole sleeve.
"Nurse, bring me a wash basin and a clean cloth. I'll also need some antiseptic cream. Also some bring back some stuff to have the infant checked out,l." After he finished telling the nurse what he needed, he calmly turn to me.
"Boy, can you tell me where and when this happened. We will need to alert the guard." He said matter of factly.
Being called a 'boy' made me feel vexed. However, I held it in and calmy replied, "Well, Old Man, I can go tell the guard myself. I just need to know where they're stationed."
"Hahaha!" The doctor laughed boisterously. "It appears you do not like being called 'boy ". My deepest apologies, I'd didn't mean to offend. Please call me Dr. Edmondson. What shall I call you?"
I took a minute for me to reply, I was shocked at his reaction. It was a good thing that he deflected my anger and laughed it off. Or else, we'd be in a different situation.
Just as I was about to answer, I realized I couldn't give my real name. I had to think fast before Dr. Edmondson became suspicious.
"I must apologize as well, I shouldn't have said that. My name is Everett, and I meant what I said about the guard. I don't want to waste time, one of their scouts had gotten away," I lie.
It's best if he doesn't know, I don't know who we can trust. We heard a knock and the nurse came in with his supplies. She then herded me to the counter where she laid out the supplies for Elnora.
"This will be quick and you can even hold her while she is being checked. I just need you to take her out the wrap for a moment." She stated. I complied and she began checking for injuries. As she mentioned it was quick and Elnora didn't fuss even a little. When she was finished, she quietly packed up her tools and gave them to a nurse walking by.
I thanked the nurse then gave my attention back to the doctor. "I can go while you treat my travel companion. Where are the stationed?" I asked. I'm not really going, especially since I killed everyone, but I need him to think I am.
He doesn't answer me directly, instead he talks to the nurse while he attends to Emily.
"Nurse, would you be so kind as to tell Mr. Everett where the guards are?"
"Right away, sir," she replied. She turned to me with a pleasant smile. "Well it's your lucky day. The guards are 2 buildings before us. You must not have noticed them in your haste. But they noticed you. I have someone waiting for you in the lobby. If you'll follow me, I'll take you to him," she said as she walked out the room.
Just my luck...
