You quietly creep out of your room and tiptoe to the door of Stark Towers, careful not to wake up the sleeping Avengers. It's around 5am and you couldn't sleep. So your resolution?
Sneak out for a morning run before Steve beat you to it.
See, you and him have this competition about running. You two even met jogging, later finding out that you'd work and live together.
When you make it into the main room, you slip on your nikes and lace them up. Your heart jumps to your throat when a light clicks on. You turn to find Steve wide awake and dressed in his jogging gear."You've got to be joking," You mutter, tying your hair into a quick pony tail and turn to leave.
"Wait," Steve says, catching up to you and smiling brightly. "Why don't we run together?"
You narrow your eyes at him. "Last time we did that, it turned into a race.""Only because you were asking for it," he opens the door for you, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
You stab your finger onto his chest. "Not in the mood, Capsickle."
He chuckles and the both of you step into the elevator. "What, to lose?"
A smile tugs at your lips. "Fine, first one to Central Park wins." You say as the elevator doors open.
"Loser has to buy breakfast?" You and Steve exit Stark Towers, itching to begin the race.
"Hope you brought your wallet. On three," You angle yourself towards Central Park and smirk. "Three!"
You take off instantly, Steve standing there for a second before racing after you and yelling, "Cheater!"
You laugh, gaining speed as you rip down the empty sidewalks. Adrenaline pumps through your veins as you make a sharp turn down an ally, separating yourself from Steve.
You know New York like the back of your hand. This ally should lead you right to Central Park in no time. Just as Central Park came into view, Steve does too. He's just as close to winning as you are.
You speed up, your legs burning and muscles aching. It happened in a flash, but somehow you and Steve collided. You both roll onto the grass, groaning and clutching the soar spots where you had landed.
"Jesus, Cap. You really need to work on your aim!" You breathe, nudging Steve's arm with your elbow.
He let out a throaty laugh and turned to you. "Me? You're the one who needs to stop cheating."
You can't help but to laugh as well, smiling goofily up at the sky. "I don't cheat. I just think outside of the box."
"Outside of the box, huh?"
Nodding, you sit up on your elbows. "So, where are you buying me breakfast?"
He stands and outstretch's a hand for you. When you take it, he pulls you up and into his arms.
"Smooth, Cap." You roll your eyes, raising an eyebrow when he looks down at you with a serious expression. "Wha-?"
He leans forward and captures your lips in his without so much as blinking. Shock coursed through your body at the sudden contact, making you jump. When he pulls away, breathless, he leans his forehead on yours. "You don't know how long I've been wanting to do that."
You widen your eyes, but smile nonetheless. "Then why did it take you so long?"
He chuckles. "If you hadn't noticed, you're quiet intimidating."
"Is that so?" You place your hands on his chest and push him back to meet his eyes.
"How about we call this our first date," Steve says, intertwining your hands and kissing your knuckles.
"A running date?" You both begin to walk back to Stark Towers. "I like it."
He grins. "Great. So did you bring your wallet?"
"What?"
"You know, since you lost the race."
You stop and slap his chest. "I did not lose, Steve."
"Yes you did, (y/n)."
"Okay, fine. Rematch." You say, letting go of his hand and shaking out your arms.
"Sure. On three," A mischievous smirk plays on his lips. "Three!" He sprints away from you, making your gasp.
"You did not just pull that trick on me, Rogers!" You scramble after him.
He laughs, "I have no idea what you're talking about!"
Steve ended up winning the race back, but you insisted that he cheated, only for him to repeat the words you had said to him.
"I'm thinking outside the box, (y/n)."
