"HAVE YOU BEEN staring at Max for the past hour?" Sam mused as she sat down next to Dustin.

"What? No." Steve lied.

"Yeah just like you didn't stand next to the bathroom to make sure I wasn't gonna die while showering." Sam deadpanned.

"I- okay, okay, maybe." Steve mumbled.

"Steve, I'm fine, don't worry about me... yet." Sam reassured.

"Really helps, thanks Sam." Dustin mocked.

Sam smiled and shook her head. After Robin and Nancy got dressed and left, Sam took a long shower and she may or may not have cried in there. She considered writing letters for the group and everyone she loved but she thought it wasn't the time yet, she still had few more days left.

Once she was out of the shower, she put on denim ripped jeans that were wide and long at the bottom, she put on black socks and her black converse. She then put on a gray oversized short sleeved shirt with some useless words on it as a print. Lastly, she put the same rings she had been wearing which were big chunks of metal with skulls, snakes, dragons and whatnot. With that, her four bracelets on one hand and the other, her wrist watch. Steve had then barged into the room with a worried expression only to sigh deeply and relax when he saw Sam.

"You worried me." Steve commented.

"I'm not gonna die in the shower." Sam said. "Especally naked. I mean, imagine the police and ambulance seeing me like that? Seriously?"

Steve laughed then and shook his head. Sam smiled back and handed him some of the earrings that each had a small guitar. Steve took the sign immediately and walked towards her, pulling her wet hair behind her ears and uncliping the earrings.

Back when they dated, he loved to put her earrings on for her and so it became a small habit that they still did.

"Haven't seen these earrings, are they new?" Steve asked.

"Yeah, Joyce bought them for me in California." Sam replied.

Steve smiled and nodded, clipping the earring before moving to the other side to do the same with the second earring. Sam kept quiet as he did that, enjoying the comfortable silence the two always shared. In the meantime, she picked up her sunflower necklace that she unclipped and as soon as Steve moved away, clipped it around her neck.

"Hey, Sam." Steve whispered. Sam turned to look at him and nodded, encouraging him to continue talking. "Please don't die." He whispered again, voice quiet and small.

Sam smiled and took his hand, interlocking their fingers. "I wish I can promise that." She mumbled. "Kinda impossible when- um... when we still don't know how to save Max... let alone save me."

Steve sighed and hugged her sideways. Sam closed her eyes and let herself enjoy the moment for a second. Steve had always been a good person for comfort. When she needed a shoulder to cry on, Steve was there and when Sam moved to California, she still felt his hugs even from far away. She was extremely glad to have Jonathan too. Robin, Nancy, Jonathan and Steve were the type of people that brought her calmness and comfort just by being around her.

Something her father could do when he was alive.

"We will survive this," Steve mumbled softly. "Together. All of us."

Sam nodded, but didn't have the heart to reply.

"I know you guys are staring at me." Max said from the corner of the room, still on the table writing under the yellow light.
