THEY WERE driving towards the hills, somewhere cars never passed by so that they wouldn't be seen.
Sam was sitting on the back couch with Eddie as the others sat around the table, on the back seat behind Steve and so on. This time, the van was filled with chattering. Dustin, Lucas and Erica were discussing something, Max was quietly talking with Robin and Nancy and Steve were talking at the front about the plan. Sam couldn't hear their conversations, she was far at the back but she could see everyone invested in them.
"You okay?" Sam asked, looking at Eddie.
"When are you going to stop asking that?" Eddie chuckled.
"I'll keep asking until you are finally okay." Sam replied.
They were facing each other; Sam sat cross-legged while leaning her head onto the back of the couch and Eddie was sitting with one leg under his body and the other dangling on the ground, also leaning onto the back of the couch.
"You think that day will come?" Asked Eddie, voice distant.
"Hell yeah," replied Sam. "I mean, you cannot die or some shit. Not unless you teach me how to play D&D."
Eddie's eyes softened when Sam said he cannot die because they both were thinking the same. No one knew if any of them would survive. If all of them would come out alive from this. Sam could see that Eddie was scared and even if he thought he wasn't strong enough or whatever insecurity was eating him alive, Sam would prove them all wrong.
"You want to play D&D?" Eddie asked instead, a grin painting his face.
"Sure, why not?" Sam shrugged. "My life is already a D&D campaign."
Eddie laughed and nodded. "You've got a point there, sweetheart." He said and Sam blushed upon the pet name. She would never get used to it.
They stared at each other for a while before Sam suddenly jumped up, remembering she had bought something for Eddie. Said Eddie looked at her with a frown, wondering what the hell just happened but Sam sent him a smile and began to shuffle through the bag that was on the seat behind Max. Once she found the bracelet, stuffed deep down under the bullets, she rushed back to her previous seat and smiled again at Eddie.
"I saw something when we were at the store," Sam explained.
Eddie raised his head, no longer resting it on the couch and narrowed his eyes at her.
"Okay?"
"It's, um, it's not much, really." She added, feeling shy. "But, uh, it reminded me of you and I, um, I wanted to give it to you."
With that being said, she slowly opened her palms and stretched her hands towards Eddie so that he could see the bracelet. It was made out of metal and it was grey. It would look good with his metal-looking bracelet and his aesthetic so Sam really hoped Eddie would like it.
"Wait, hold on," Eddie breathed out, turning to look at Sam after staring at the bracelet for a good solid minute. "You, Sammy Hopper, got this... for me?"
Sam nodded. "Yeah," she replied. "It, um, it would suit you, so..."
Eddie's left hand snatched the bracelet from Sam's hands and unclipped it immediately, messily trying to tie it around his wrist where his other bracelet stood. Sam, on the other hand, watched with a stunned expression. She knew Eddie couldn't possibly hate the bracelet but she didn't expect him to take it so fast and try to wear it immediately. Sam watched as Eddie's eyes swam with happiness. If Sam had let Eddie read her like an open book, had Eddie done the same? Was that why Sam could clearly see the happiness and love in Eddie's eyes? Love towards the bracelet, of course.
