SAM TURNED around and ran.
She didn't even look behind herself. She just ran past trees, past bushes and branches. She ran hand in hand with fear.
"Sam, there is nowhere you can hide." Vecna taunted from behind her.
Sam refused to believe him. Her nerves were on fire, heart pounding in her ears and fear consuming her like a black hole. She didn't know where she was running, she just knew that she should get as far away from him as possible but damn it, everything was dark, everything was way too scary and horrifying for Sam's brain to even work properly.
"Sam," Vecna slowly said, voice echoing but Sam noticed how it was further away than previously.
Sam's feet slipped few times and she almost fell but kept going, looking around for someplace to hide. Her body was drenched in cold sweat, her hands were shaking and the tears that had once started falling didn't seem to want to stop. The fog around her closed in as if trying to confuse and trap her, the trees loomed over her like shadowy ghosts watching her with black eyes and the footsteps she kept hearing behind her were making her tremble in horror.
"Steve!" Sam screamed. "Robin! Nancy! Someone please!" Her voice dripped in a pool of sorrow, strangled and broken. "Please! Help me!"
"They can't help you, Sam." Vecna said from somewhere behind her.
Sam shook her head, still running and looking around for a way out. She wondered how had Max found a way out. There must have been something to get her out. A gate? A door? Anything. Max did mention it was like an opening mid space but since back then she couldn't really explain it or get her words out, Sam was left with only brief ideas of what a way out should look like.
"Dustin! Lucas! Max!" She screamed, chanting each name of her friends, hoping one of them would hear her. "Nancy! Robin!" She wrapped her arms around her body, shaking and sobbing uncontrollably.
"Eddie!" Sam screamed in anguish. "Eddie, please!"
A low redish light blistered from the corners of her eyes and when Sam turned to look, she could see red fog behind black trees. Sam looked behind herself, not seeing Vecna anywhere, she followed the light, hoping she could find a way out like Max had.
As Sam ran, body shaking with fear, she came to a complete red opening.
The sky was red, the fog around was suffocating and again, red. There were broken pieces of a house right upfront, few feet away from where Sam stood frozen. Sam could recognise the place only because Max had drawn it and even tried explaining it with words. It was far worse and scarier seeing it in person though. Not only was it horrifying, but Sam's eyes kept looking at the furniture and the levitating door, the one Robin had broken with a rock.
What stuck her the most was the grandfather clock levitating on the left side of the ruins.
Sam looked behind herself again, making sure Vecna wasn't there and walked towards the ruins, hoping to find the same opening Max had but as she walked, she knew she wouldn't find it. Sam knew she can't find the opening because there wasn't a song playing and her friends on the other side probably couldn't find her backpack because she was stupid enough to leave it behind, worried about Eddie instead.
She wanted to be angry at herself, wanted to cruse herself and blame it on her own self that it was her fault that she was still stuck here.
But she couldn't.
Not when she had been so worried for Eddie and angry at the Hawkins Town people.
Sam's feet splashed onto black liquid as she quickened her pace, her converse getting dirty and even bits of her denim jeans. She shuddered, mind racing and wondering where was Vecna because if he wanted to get to her, he would. This was his throne, he would have known if Sam was here.
