THE MACHINE whined upon being activated to work. There was a soft quietness around and Sam waited as the warm tea began to fill the four plastic cups. There was a tray of small snacks that she had bought before the tea and they sat on the all too big tray, waiting to be delivered.
Sam looked around the big hall, watching people enter the building and leave, watching doctors rush in and out, watching people take breaks or crying. It wasn't the ideal place to put vending machines and coffee/tea machines here but oh well, Hospitals had a weird way of making you remember everything you didn't want to. Putting vending machines in rooms were people cried so you have to listen to them while waiting for your snacks or coffee or tea. Not ideal at all.
As Sam looked around, she also noticed that few people gave her weird looks and really, it's completely understandable- seeing as the way Sam looked right now wasn't anything normal.
The machine finally stopped and Sam took each cup one by one, placed them back in the white tray and started walking towards the elevator.
Funny how this same hospital was the one where they had first seen a glimpse of The Mind Flayer. Sam could vividly remember running up the stairs with the kids, worried for Jonathan and Nancy. She could remember the way her heart skipped a beat when she saw that ugly-looking monster, remembers helping Jonathan pick Nancy up from the floor and rush downstairs to see the monster dissolve in the sewer.
At least now there were new workers and the desk lady got changed because she was on the phone when shit happened.
The elevator screeched a bit as it halted to a stop and Sam waited until the doors opened to walk out. She slowly made her way towards the left, passing doors and doors until she came to the one she needed. The door was simple brown and Sam briefly wondered if they could ask the director to paint it and make it feel more homey.
As Sam opened the door, she announced, "Delivery service."
Erica and Lucas stood up and immediately rushed to help Sam with the tray.
"Thanks, we were getting thirsty." Lucas smiled, getting a cup of tea and few of the snacks Sam had gotten.
"I told him to go buy us some food but he wouldn't bulge." Erica commented, doing the same as Lucas.
"It's okay," Sam reassured. "I don't mind bringing you food it- um... it distracts me."
Erica nodded in understanding and Lucas patted her shoulder with his free hand. Sam looked towards the hospital bed and put the tray down, slowly walking past the two siblings and towards the bed until she was at the foot of it. There were many machines hooked up and the colors all around were a bit too white, too depressing.
"Hey, Max," Sam greeted, sitting down and taking one of Max's hands that was in a casket. That one was white too. Really... it was depressing. "How are we feeling today?"
"Like shit." Grunted Max, slowly opening her eyes to smile at Sam.
"At least you are able to talk now." Sam pointed out.
"I still see blurriness though." Noted Max.
"Glasses would help with that." Lucas said from behind Sam.
"Or, your sight might get better with the medicine." Sam added, sending Max a smile and wondering how much of it could Max see. "You still have a long way to go before you heal."
Max nodded slightly, the casket on her neck forbidding her from making too many sudden movements. Lucas moved to sit on the chair across from Sam and Erica sat down on the blye couch near the windows. Sam would have gotten some snacks for Max, seeing as she turned to look at the two when they began to eat and drink the tea but the doctors have different food for Max.
