CALIFORNIA SHONE under the sun as Sam hummed a low tune, her guitar in her lap and her fingers creating a melody with the strings. Yesterday had been raining and it washed away all the nasty thoughts Sam had so now that the sun was out, Sam begun to come up with a song rather than learn one that already existed.

A year had gone since the Upside Down gate was closed, a year or so since she moved with Eleven and the Byers in California.

I shall first tell you Sam's story and life, shouldn't I?

Well, Sam Hopper was born in New York to Jim Hopper and Diane. Four years later, her sister Sara was born only to die at the age of seven due to cancer. Hopper moved to Hawkins and Diane's personality went to shit. They divorced and Diane began to close off and drink until Sam felt like she was living alone in the house. Diane didn't care for Sam, said she reminds her too much of Sara because they share the exact same personality and eyes. Diane said it hurts her to look at Sam.

At the age of fifteen, with the approval of Diane, Sam moved to Hawkins to live with her father.

Hopper was an emotionally unavailable man. He took pills and got drunk at any given second so the first seven months of living with him were hell and empty. He didn't acknowledge her, didn't talk to her and didn't even help her sign into the school to which she had to do it alone and then just asked for Diane's help.

After eight months of living with Hopper, Sam finally began to notice changes.

They were small, like he would look at her a bit longer when she came home, he would leave warm food on the table just before she was back from school and he would keep the TV quiet when she went to sleep. Nine months went by of her arrival and Sam noticed that he didn't go to sleep before her late at night but would wait for her to return from whenever she went. She also noticed how he would actually start replying to what Sam would say and when Sam joked she would skip classes, he would shot her a glare. The first months, he didn't care if she skipped, didn't even acknowledge it.

Eleven months went by and they began to talk, long normal conversations. Sam could see that he cared for her and she knew he cared for her even when he moved away, even when he pretended she didn't exist because deep down, she knew he saw Sara in her. Sam knew he cared for her even when he was unable to be physically and mentally there for her and she knew he cared for her even when he was shouting or yelling at her.

A year went by and she turned 16. Sam and her father were becoming close just like before Sara's death. They played games at night, watched TV together, went to dinners together and what not. Soon enough, before Hawkins became hell, they became the closest father and daughter you'll ever meet.

Aside from that, when Sam moved to Hawkins, she became friends with Jonathan which soon led them to best friends and that was how she met Will and his mother. Their family was amazing and sweet. They were accepting and nice. Months later she met Mike, Dustin and Lucas who had a D&D club with Will. Sometimes she would take the kids home after a long campaign at Mike's house and would joke with her dad that she was the daughter of a Chief so she had to take care of the town and the people in it as well.

She wasn't friends with Nancy at first because she seemed really stuck up or like she was trying to be someone else. Plus, she was dating Steve at that time and he was the biggest asshole in the school.

When Will disappeared, Sam volunteered to search for him that one night with the kids and found Eleven. They hid her in Mike's basement and soon learned Eleven had powers. Long story short, Sam spent most of that week with the kids until her father, Joyce, Nancy and Jonathan found out. They all gathered together and Sam noticed something between Jonathan and Nancy which made her like Nancy seeing if Jonathan saw something good in someone, it meant that person was good.

When Eleven disappeared after the fight in the school and after Joyce and her dad went to the Upside Down to find Will, Sam became best friends with Nancy as well. Nancy, Sam and Jonathan wanted to kill the Demogorgon in the Byers house but of course Steve had to come and try to apologise to Jonathan at the worst time which got him included in all the Upside Down shit. The demogorgon thing was before Eleven disappeared, just to be clear.

A month or so went by and Sam's father found Eleven to which he decided to keep her in a secret from the rest to protect her from the bad men of the lab. Sam had to keep her mouth shut too but that allowed her to get close to Eleven until she counted said girl as a sister. Outside of that cabin, Will was struggling with his constant episodes until he was sent in the Lab and they all discovered that the Mind Flyer was opening tunnels under the town and that he had Will possessed. Bob had died to save Hopper, Sam, Joyce, Mike and Will and Sam would never forget him.

During the year of hiding Eleven, Max and Billy moved in the town. Billy was the epitome of asshole and even worse than Steve (who was becoming a much better person and well, he and Nancy broke up after a Halloween party). He was a terrible person but Max on the other hand was the nicest person ever. She became friends with the party and when Billy found them in Jonathan's house after Steve tried to fight him off, Max almost broke his dick with a bat full of nails.

After Eleven came back looking all cool and shit with her hair pulled back and black clothes, she, Sam and Hopper went down the lab for Eleven to close the gate. Eleven had gone to find her mother and found her name to be Jane so when they closed the gate and saved Owens that was stuck in the lab, Hopper adopted Jane. Sam was utterly happy and excited to have Jane as her sister.

Months went by and Hawkins was quiet. Nancy and Jonathan got together and were a happy couple while Steve was working in Scoops Ahoy! with Robin. Sam, thinking she had a crush on Steve, tried to make him jealous by flirting and making out with Billy (which mind you, he was actually a great kisser) only to realise that Steve had a crush on her too.

So, they started to date and Sam spent time in Scoops Ahoy! quite a lot. But then Eleven broke up with Mike and when Max and Eleven had a sleepover at the Hopper cabin, they played a game to see who was doing what. Eleven saw Billy with Heather and something wasn't okay so when they visited, they found nothing suspicious. The morning after, Mike called them and Will told them about how he felt the mind flyer for the past few days and they began to assume that the mind flyer was back.

They did the sauna test and proved that Billy was possessed by the Mind Flyer. Nancy and Jonathan had made a test on an old woman and she had the same burning symptoms the same hour they did the sauna test so they went to Heather's house to check for Tom who was her father and boss of Nancy and Jonathan. The hospital was murdered by those who were possessed by The Mind Flyer and Eleven fought a really gross looking monster with bones and flesh from humans. More specifically, his body was made out of it.

During the whole fight away from Steve, Sam began to realise that maybe she didn't like Steve that much and she was extremely glad to find that Steve felt the same way once they found Steve with Robin, Dustin and Erica in the mall. The fight there was brutal and horrifying that it left Sam with nightmares for weeks after.

When everything was over and she realised that her father wasn't coming back, that he died as a hero down near the gate to the Upside Down, Sam was devastated. She couldn't feel herself for months until the Byers decided to move.

She and Eleven lived with them after everything because the cabin was destroyed during the fight with the Mind Flyer and Sam didn't want to go back to New York ever again. Her mother moved on, she didn't want to be with Sam either so the Byers, who had become her family, kindly accepted her and Eleven. They moved with them to California after three or so months of the events at the Mall.

Sam and Steve became best friends again, not wanting to ruin their friendship for a silly crush that didn't last long while Sam became best friends with Robin as well. She and Robin knew each other from long ago because when Robin was experimenting with herself, Sam was helping her and Sam's first kiss was with a girl. With Robin.

Either way, Sam was going back to Hawkins for the spring break tomorrow.
