FINALLY THEY arrived at the last destination Max had asked them to bring her to. They were in the cementary at East Hawkins where the forest was thicker and the air colder. Sam immediately knew why Max wanted to go here the moment she mentioned the destination. Sam caught a name on a letter that was meant for a person buried right here, a person that had died saving Eleven after being cruelly controlled by the Mind Flyer.

Steve parked the car twenty or so feet away from the grave Max was going to go to and as soon as he did so, Max opened the door and walked out, once again not waiting for the door to close. Lucas opened the door across Sam and nodded at her to move. Sam nodded back and stood up for Lucas to walk out and catch up to Max, beginning a conversation that Sam couldn't hear seeing as she was further away.

After five or so minutes of quietness, Sam sighed and jumped to sit on the car's hood. Steve sat in his seat with the door open while Dustin stood on the other side, leaning his front onto the car. Lucas, on the other side, sat next to Sam, eyes glued to Max.

Silence fell upon them and the minutes ticked by.

To be quite honest, Sam didn't exactly hate nor like Billy. He was a total asshole, sure, and he was most definitely terrible at showing any type of emotion but Sam could see that he did care for Max but either not enough or too late. Sam knew that if the two had a bit more time, right after Billy came back to his senses when he faced the Mind Flyer, she knew that Billy and Max could have became closer if they tried.

There was no need in denying that Sam felt bad for Billy's death. Not just because Max was struggling to deal with all of that, but because she knew if he had more time, he might have been a better person. Not entirely, of course, but toleratable for sure. Billy's death was sort of unfair, despite how terrible Billy was, no one deserved to die like he had. No one deserves to be pushed into the Upside Down mess, no one deserves to face a monster and never get to have a chance to get close to someone he actually wanted to get close to or to try to fix things. Sam knew, deep down, that Billy deserved another chance. A last one at least.

As Sam kept thinking about everything that happened while Billy was alive, she looked around the group. She wasn't so sure how they felt about Billy and she wasn't going to ask anyway. The kids were mostly scared of Billy, Nancy probably hated him, Steve absolutely despised him and well, Max definitely had a special spot for Billy in her heart.

Fifteen minutes passed by and Max was still by the grave. The group became impatient and restless but Sam could notice that Max hasn't been really moving or talking for the past two or so minutes. At first, she thought Max was just trying to keep her tears at bay but then Steve groaned, totally impatient as he stood up from his seat and started walking towards Max.

"All right, it's been long enough." Steve said.

"Steve, just give her some time." Lucas groaned.

"I have, all right?" Steve replied. "I'm calling it. She wants to get a lawyer, she can." With that, he walked towards Max.

Lucas and Dustin looked at each other before looking at Sam as if asking for what to do. Sam shrugged and hopped down from the hood of the car, following Steve. Lucas and Dustin grumbled but continued to sit in the car. Sam shrugged again and took quick steps to catch up to Steve.

"Max, time to giddy up, yeah?" Steve asked once he reached Max. The girl was sitting with her legs crossed and she was staring into space. "Max?" Steve slowly asked.

Sam looked closely at Max only to find her eyes rolled halfway behind. Max seemed  to be frozen.

Fuck.
