AFTER TEN minutes of torture rowing, this time Robin and Eddie taking the oars to change, the compass began to go bonkers. Nancy and Sam were looking at it on top of Nancy's hand as Steve pointed his flashlight around the water.

Sam couldn't help but feel flustered sitting extremely close to Eddie. Her heart was beating a bit too fast. They were basically pressed shoulder to shoulder since the bench couldn't fit all of them, they ended up squished. Sam in between Eddie and Robin. From time to time, Eddie would look at her and she would pretend as if she's trying to figure out the compass but the way her heart skipped beats was almost impossible to ignore.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down!" Nanch suddenly said, the compass in her hand going even more bonkers than before. "Slow down, guys!"

Eddie and Robin turned to look at Nancy, stopping their rowing. Steve pointed his flashlight at the compass and said, "whoa."

"That's exactly how the compass went near the lab." Sam commented.

"Guys, what's going on?" Dustin asked through the walkie. "Come on, talk to me. What's going on?"

Robin took the walkie they had and replied, "uh, Dustin, your- your compass has gone from wonky to wonky with a capital 'aah!'"

Dustin didn't reply anything and Robin didn't bother to talk anymore. Suddenly though, Steve began to take off his shoes and socks.

"Steve, what are you doing?" Nancy asked.

"Somebody's gotta go down and check this out," replied Steve. "Unless one of you four can top being a Hawkins High swim co-captain and certified lifeguard for three years, then... it's gotta be me." He explained. "No complains, all right?" With that, he stood up.

"Hey, I'm not complaining." Eddie simply replied, holding Steve's flashlight as he took out some kind of bag out of the pockets of his leather jacket which most likely held weed. "I do not wanna go down there." He added and took out a lighter and a pack of whatever weed it was that he put in his mouth before wrapping the flashlight with the bag and tying it tightly.

In the meantime, Steve took off his shirt and began to messily roll it in a ball. Robin smiled at something and Sam turned to look at what she was looking at only to see Nancy staring at Steve's half naked body. Oh, Sam thought. Well, damn.

"Dude, didn't Dustin tell you to tame that jungle?" Sam asked, looking at Steve's chest.

"Yes and I told him the ladies dig it." Steve replied, turning to roll his eyes at Sam.

"Sure, Stevie." Sam said with a chuckle and then, with an unnoticed side-eye at Nancy, she added, "I can see that."

"Hey," Eddie said, bringing Steve's attention back. Eddie then handed him the tied flashlight and Steve took it while leaning a bit back. "Good luck."

"Thanks." Steve replied.

As Eddie put a joint in his mouth, Steve threw his yellow sweatshirt at Eddie. Sam openly stared at Eddie because sure, she might not like the idea of getting high or whatever, but Eddie kinda looked good with the joint in his mouth. Well, he did before Robin suddenly snatched the joint out of his mouth.

"Gross." Robin commented and threw the joint in the water.

Sam laughed and Eddie shot her a look as if saying 'help?'. Sam shrugged and looked back at Steve, hearing Eddie groan next to her.

"Uh- Steve?" Nancy said in a rush as Steve prepared himself to jump. Steve turned to look at Nancy and said girl softly said, "be careful."

Steve nodded.
