Chapter 2

The day after she met Dumbledore, Iris apparated to Diagon Alley. When she arrived, she stumbled upon one of the alleyways. She met up with Dumbledore who found her just in time.

"It's fascinating how you can apparate at your age. I'm surprised the Ministry hasn't caught you" Dumbledore said.

"The Ministry?" she questioned.

"Why yes, you can't expect us wizards to run around without order. It'll be chaos. Surely, you must be using the channels that are being supervised by the Ministry?" he said.

"I don't know. All I see is darkness where I'm moving" she said.

"Oh, well no wonder they haven't caught you. That's quite dangerous, what you're doing" he said.

"Why?" she said.

"Well, the channels you are using aren't regulated. Here, let's move out of this alleyway and head over to the main area of Diagon Alley" Dumbledore led the way.

They move out of the secluded section and walked with the rest of the people.

"Let's use Diagon Alley as an example so that you can understand it better. Where we are walking, you can tell that it's busy and populated. Everyone uses this road. It's open and easy to supervise, right?" Dumbledore said.

Iris nodded in agreement.

"And as you can see, even Diagon Alley has its own alleys that are hidden, similar to where I found you earlier. It's the same concept we can use to describe the channels you use to apparate. It's like the backways of the underground channels of apparating." Dumbledore said.

"Wouldn't the Ministry know about this?" she said.

"Of course. They have wizards whose job is to search for these channels. That's why I found it quite shocking that you use them. It's illegal and the only reason wizards don't get caught using these channels is that they change courses. Windows constantly open and close leaving no trace. It remains dark and hard to find. The channels are narrow and one mistake is quite detrimental. It can kill you if used incorrectly and recklessly. Many who use this don't want the Ministry to know where they are" he said.

This made Iris worry and even scared to apparate again, "I'll be extra careful" she said.

Dumbledore saw that to it, "Don't worry, Iris. There are plenty of ways to travel safely without having to use apparition" Dumbledore stopped walking and Iris followed.

"Here we are" Dumbledore looked above. Her first stop was Gringotts.

"Before you buy any supplies, you're going to need money" he said.

"How will I buy my supplies if I don't have money?" she said

"Well, I am sure you have a vault left for you at Gringotts" he said.

"Gringotts?" she asked with much curiosity.

"Yes, the safest bank I know there is! But of course, you need to state your name and I mean your full name." He said accentuating "full".

"I see" she sighed

"Why do you seem to frown upon your last name?" he said.

"From what I read, he seemed like a monster. If he is my distant relative, maybe that's where I got it from when I killed the other orphans." She said.

"What happened in the massacre was an incredibly unfortunate accident." He said.

"But, the only reason it happened was that I wanted to give back what they did to me. Not to kill them" she said.
