It was a still cold winter in a small-town North of London, 1926. This place wasn't well developed compared to the city. Neighbors were miles away. Uneven roads. The smell of manure lingers every hour of the day. Within this town lives an orphanage that had been up for a century. What made this particular orphanage successful through its years was child labor. Once a child was capable of thinking for themselves, they were old enough to work. To cook for themselves, farm, raise cattle, clean the house, and sell goods. Every day they worked to help upkeep the facility. Since good money was hard to come by, especially at this time, not many children were adopted. It was expensive having to support other than oneself. And the children who did get adopted were older so that they could work for that family.

A baby was left alone in a woven basket, wrapped with a blanket on the doorstep of this muggle orphanage. It was a still cold winter, with nothing but the sounds of a baby girl crying. The orphanage did not know how she ended up at their doorstep but was left with a note of her name, "Iris Freya Slytherin". They tried to search around to see if the person who left the baby was nearby. Unfortunately, even on the snowy path, there were no footsteps to be seen. They wondered how the tracks could have been easily covered by the snow for there was no wind drifting by. The baby was hardly months old, but rather weeks. After giving up on their search, they took her in.

They claimed her to be born on December 31, 1926, the day she was found. Iris was well and capable of understanding her surroundings and was quite intelligent. After the age of three, the orphanage deemed her ready to work. She would help feed the animals and pick out crops. But most of her time was cleaning around the house and washing the dishes. When winter came and the children didn't have to maintain the place as much, so they were able to play.

On her sixth birthday, she decided to go play outside in the snow. The snow was heavily falling with snowflakes, and as soon as she raised her hand to catch the fallen snow, the snowflakes were still. As if time stopped just for her. She looked around to see the other orphans, but they were completely frozen in time. The moment she dropped the snow from her hands, the snow resumed falling. She looked back at her surroundings, and they all continued on where they left off. Iris tried telling the other orphans of her unexpected powers, but they called her crazy. Soon after that, they picked on her and pushed her around for being different.

Many of the kids would mess with her belongings, steal her food, and push her around when they got the chance. Others who weren't picking on Iris felt forced to, otherwise, they'd get bullied as well.

One day, Iris was dusting off the shelves in the library, but in order to do so, she needed a stool. The stool was wobbly and hard to balance off of, but with time and repetition, it became easy for her. A group of girls walk past and noticed her. They had mischievous looks on their faces. Two girls stand guard right outside. They closed the door behind them quietly. The leader of the group, Helen, and her loyal follower Terra approached her cautiously. Helen looked over at Terra to do the deed. Terra takes her leg and sidekicks the unstable leg of the stool. Iris was caught off guard and lost her balance. She fell, landing on her side. In deep pain, she broke her left arm. Iris gripped her arms close to her chest as she tried to bear the pain. The group of girls put on an act as the head of the orphanage comes by.

"What happened?" Madame Umphrey rushes to Iris.

" She was using the broken stool. We told her not to but she insisted" Helen said.

"You should've come to me immediately!" Madame Umphrey calls the other ladies of the house and helped carry Iris into the infirmary room.

After being treated and her arm wrapped, she fell into a deep sleep. Suddenly, she was woken up by Helen.
