She was headed for the Slytherin common room. She said the password and it opened for her. Slytherin students filled the room and when they turned around to see who was entering, they just stared at Iris. She understood that it was her being the new girl, but sometimes it makes her worry that her disguised must've worn off. She could hear there thoughts, the room was filled with curiosity, jealousy, envy, and lust. She ignored all the eyes wandering on her and made her way upstairs. She was given a single dorm where she could unwind. It would've been tiring having to room with other girls and trying to stay in character.
"I don't know why I came back. I don't need to be here" Iris mumbled to herself as she started to unpack.
"Because Dumbledore knows you are in trouble. He needs you to remember where you came from" a portrait that Iris had laid down spoke up. It was a picture of her when she was twelve years old, sitting on a blanket in the backyard of her home.
"I know where I came from" Iris said.
"And where is that?" the portrait said.
"I don't have to tell you. You are me" Iris said.
"No duh" the portrait said.
"What could I possibly not know?" Iris said.
"Don't ask me, I'm just a portrait" the portrait said.
"Thanks, you are very helpful" Iris said sarcastically as she slammed the dresser drawer.
"If you are that forgetful, I wrote everything in our diary. You must've brought it with you. I never leave without it and you shouldn't too" the portrait said.
Iris went into her suitcase to dig it out. She went through her school books and came across a thick book.
"That's the one" the portrait said.
"Geez, this is a dictionary" Iris said.
"I haven't filled all the pages yet. There is still plenty of room to last till I die. Continue to write it. Pick up where we left off. Use it to refresh your memories" the portrait said.
Iris was flipping through the pages, "I can't believe I'd write all of this"
"We were lonely. That diary was our friend, someone we could go to and tell all the exciting stuff we'd done. Whether it was something huge or small." The portrait said.
"I think I remember writing some of these, but the context...I don't follow" Iris said.
"How can you forget the friends you've made in Hogwarts?" the portrait said.
"What friends? As a matter of a fact, I remember distinctly being a bookworm. Worked in the library and was stuck in the restricted section" Iris said.
"That isn't all that you were. How can you forget our roommates? Augustana? Nicollete?" the portrait said.
"They did talk about me and they did seem hurt. But I don't remember doing anything important with them. They were nice, I guess...I didn't really hang out with them outside of the dorm" Iris said.
"How about Tom? You can't forget about him. He means everything to us" the portrait said.
"Tom? No way. I now remember him being alone, and he was always so quiet and mysterious. He wasn't one to talk, especially to someone like me. In fact, I remember using the Astronomy tower for some alone time and was kicked off by him and Ava" Iris said.
"That never happened" the portrait said.
"I thought you were just a portrait" Iris said.
"A portrait that's a memory of you. I highly suggest you read the diary before you reconcile with them. But I must warn you about Tom. He was always peculiar when we were younger. I felt as though he used to open up to me. But now that it has been four years, there's a possibility he could be different. I'd be careful around him. Have your guard up" the portrait said.
