Chapter 24

After class was over, Iris walked out with Augustana and Nicollete while Tom and his group were not too far behind them.

Christopher was waiting outside, looking for someone.

"Christopher, what are you doing here?" Iris went up to him.

His eyes widened as he saw her, "Genevieve! I've been looking for you! Professor Dumbledore told me you'd be in here. I need your help, you've got time for butterbeer? I won't take no for an answer"

"Uhm, sure" Iris said.

Tom overheard and wanted to watch them over closely. He took Ava with him.

"Where are we going, my Lord?" she said.

"Don't ask questions and just follow closely." he said.

"Ok" she said.

Christopher and Iris were walking down the road to get to Hogsmeade. The road is busier than usual because of the other schools, but never crowded.

"Okay, what did you want to talk about?" Iris said.

"The tournament...now, I understand if you don't want to help since we're competing against each other and all, but I can't seem to find the clue. Every time I open the egg, it gives this nail and chalk board shriek. It makes my ears bleed" he said.

"You put it underwater and listen. It's a siren" she said.

"Siren...? You guys have sirens?" he said.

"In the lake. They can't stop singing, it drives me nuts" she said.

"I can imagine...well, the hard part is over with and it's time for that butterbeer I promised. Tell me, it'll be worth it with all this walking" he said.

"It will, trust me" she said.

As they were walking she could sense Tom and Ava near.

"You want to take a shortcut? It'll cut like half of the time we need to get there?" she said.

"Why, is this path longer?" he said.

"To avoid...dangerous...and... possibly life threatening... parts of the forest, but considering you were picked for a reason to participate in the tournament, you will be fine" she said.

"All I heard was an adventure, and I'm all for it. Let's go!" He went on ahead, excited for what's to come.

"Christopher! Be careful!" Iris ran after him.

"Come on, Gen! You're too slow" he said.

Tom and Ava, who were far enough, saw them go into the woods.

"They're going in the forest? Are they crazy?" Ava said.

"Let's follow them, see what they're up to" Tom said.

"What are we going to get out of this, my Lord?" Ava said.

"What did I say about questions?" he said.

"I'm sorry" she said.

"If you must know, this whole tournament thing is getting on my nerves. I just want to see if we could meddle with it and send these imbeciles home" he said.

"Wonderful idea, my Lord!" she said.

"Don't grovel" he said

As they were following them, Iris was quick to lose them by using the creepy forest in her favor. She waved her hands and the trees and roots shifted to block Tom. Christopher was carelessly walking through the woods, while Iris was protecting him from killer plant roots trying to strangle him as well.
