"I'm sorry love." Pau whispered from behind.
I remember what my classmate have said. "Sorry is nothing but an excuse for not trying hard enough." Sa patagal daw nang patagal ang sorry ng tao, it was becoming more and more meaningless. Parang naging part na lang ng routine. Magso-sorry. Pagbibigyan. Gagawin lang ulit.
Pero para sa akin, sorry is a proof that I am worthy more than Pau's ego. He is willing na ibaba ang pride niya para sa akin. He is willing to admit and take responsibility for his mistakes.
"I told you, okay lang." Sagot ko. He was apologizing for not coming early even we had an early plan. I just shook it off. It won't help us in any way.
"Aalis ka na?" He asked. It was 4 am and I was already ready to go to the hospital for my early duty.
"My senior called me to come. Emergency." Maiksing sagot ko at saka inilagay sa bag ang damit na susuutin ko bago pumasok sa uni.
I was already wearing my white nurses uniform. Wala na akong oras na magpalit sa locker dahil kailangan kong dumiretso sa ER kaya sinuot ko na kaagad.
"Have you eaten?" Tanong niya at saka umupo mula sa pagkakahiga sa kama. His eyes were half open like he was just forcing himself to stay awake. Well, I couldn't blame him, he just came home a while ago and he have an early bird wife. His schedule is crazy as hell kaya late na siyang nakakauwi tapos maaga ulit na umaalis. Ako naman, most of the time, kapag kailangan kong umalis nang maaga, I am trying not to wake him up but I guess he was indeed the head of this home so he was alert.
Umiling ako at saka lumapit sa kanya para halikan siya sa labi. I chuckled when his eyes widened. We were married for years now, but he still acts like what I am doing is surprising. "I haven't cooked yet because I really need to go now pero huwag kang magpapalipas ng gutom, okay?"
Ngumiti ako at saka nagsimulang maglakad palabas. I was holding our door knob when Pau held my wrist and pulled me for a tight hug. "Take good care of yourself." He whispered and kissed me on the top of my head.
"You want me to bring you to work?" Tanong niya at saka hinawakan ang magkabilang pisngi ko to lock our eyes.
"Hindi na. After work didiretso na ako sa campus. Male-late ako kapag nag-commute ako." Saad ko at saka ngumiti. "And you needed some sleep. Just take a rest."
Dahan-dahan siyang tumango.
I turned my back, but before I could open the door, Pau pulled me again for a kiss in the lips. This time, it was a lot longer.
"Wala na 'yung lip tint na inilagay ko." I joked before heading out.
The report is indeed right because when I walked inside the emergency room, bunch of guys in suit were all crying in pain. May ilang may dugo sa ulo, 'yung iba ay may cast sa braso, ang iba naman ay sa paa. May ilan-ilan din na mukhang mayroong stab wounds. And worst was bullet shots.
"What happened here?" Tanong ko sa kasamahan kong busy sa paghahanap ng nerve sa kaliwang braso ng pasyente. She was a newbie kaya hirapan siya sa pagsaksak ng needle. Idagdag pang nanginginig ang kamay niya dahil sa malamig na titig ng lalaki na kulang na lang ay patayin siya.
