King Regis x Reader: New King's Guard

Ahhh daddy issues go brrr!!! Anyways, this was requested by Lyria_WR, so like I tell everyone, enjoy this!!!❤️🥺

You fixed your armor, nervous as hell to meet the Royal family. You were a highly trained guard, taught to show no emotion, but you couldn't help it. Taking a deep breath, you walked into the palace, a guard escorting you to the throne room.

"Your Highness, your new guard has arrived." He stated to the king, and you approached the steps leading to the throne, and bowed before him.

"Your Highness, F/n L/n, at your service. It's an honor sir." The king stood up from the throne, smiling at your introduction.

"Stand up soldier, and come closer." You did as commanded, and walked closer to him. He was a rather handsome man, with rough facial features, and a few grey hairs. He walked around you, humming to himself.

"That's strange indeed. They did not tell me my new guard was a girl." You blushed, and bowed again.

"My apologies sir. To my understanding, they had told you. But, I guess they had left that part out. But do not worry your Highness. I assure you, I am the best of the best, despite me being a female. I hope it won't be a problem." He laughed a hardy laugh, patting your shoulder.

"Not at all! If you are as good as you say you are, then I trust you with my life! Now, why don't you walk around, explore the castle, and who knows? You might even meet my son Noctis!" And so, you left the throne room, exploring the grounds of the kingdom. Of course, you had to endure the whispers from the other guards.

"She's not fit to be a guard."

"She won't last a week here."

"Why did King Regis hire her again?"

You sighed, and suddenly ran into a man who looked like the king. Prince Noctis?!

"You must be the prince. My apologies, my name is F/n L/n. Your father hired me." You bowed respectfully, and all you heard was a scoff.

"Whatever. Just stay out of my way." He walked past you. God, what a jerk! You spent the whole day learning all about the Royal family, and reading a few books from the library. You were patrolling the garden until a guard approached you.

"Hey newbie. It's your turn to guard the king's bedroom."

"But he didn't say anything about a nightly rotation." He would've said something, right?

"Look, I don't feel like arguing with you about it. Just do it." He walked away before you were able to protest. You rolled your eyes, but made your way up to the king's bedroom, standing in front of the door. Another guard soon joined you, a gun at the ready. He stood on the left, and you on the right.

"You the new guard correct?" He spoke up after a few moments of silence.

"Yeah, why? Here to tell me I'm not going to last? I've been hearing that a lot." You were starting to doubt yourself. A female really has no business being a royal guard.

"No, don't listen to those assholes. King Regis would not have hired you if he didn't see potential in you. He hires guards constantly to replace the ones that died in battle." You sighed.

"What if the others are right? A girl like me doesn't need to be here." He hummed.

"Don't let your gender define what you can do. It won't help you if you don't believe in yourself. King Regis certainly does." Wait..... The king does....? You held your cheek, sustaining a bright blush.

"Thanks. I'm Y/n by the way. What's yours?" You held your hand out, still standing forward. The guard shook your hand, smiling through the darkness of the hall.

"It's Connor. It's a pleasure to meet you Y/n. I think we're going to get along just fine." And so, as time went on, you proved to the other Royal guards that you were a force to be reckoned with, and they all left you alone and stopped talking smack, mainly cause of how close King Regis was to you, and you to him. You even were promoted to bodyguard, and you couldn't be happier. You met another bodyguard named Gladio, and he became a great friend to you. One day, you were called to the throne room to stand by the king.

"It gets quite lonely here Y/n. Have you ever felt that way?" You indeed felt lonely. You didn't have anyone special in your life, and being around the king didn't help, especially cause you were in love. Yes, that's right. You were in love with a much older man who had a higher status than you.

"I feel that way everyday your Highness. A question, if I may ask?" He ordered you to proceed. "What happens if a guard falls in love with royalty?" You were scared to ask, but you can trust him.

"They would get fired and banned from the kingdom. But, I don't have to worry about that right? Oh." He knew that look on your face.

"My apologies sir, I'm in love with you. I cannot deny it any longer. You have been kind to me since day one, and I can't help but to fall for you. If you want me to leave, I understand." You stared at the ground, ashamed of your feelings.

"I think I can make an exception for you." He secretly held your hand, squeezing it gently. You smiled, and blushed. You didn't care if he was older. He was kind, funny, and took being a king seriously.
