(The Next Day, Ramshackle Dorm)
"Aren't the two of you supposed to be off at school today", a ghost asked
"Five more minutes, ma", Grim mumbled
"Go ahead and sleep the day away, and you might never hafta wake up again", another ghost stated with a laugh
"Myah, the ghosts are back, hey, Evelyn, up and at 'em", Grim said as Evelyn opened her eyes, sitting up from bed, looking outside, Evelyn's eyes widened
"Oh-no, I'm late", Evelyn muttered, throwing the blankets off her, grabbing her school uniform, and running toward the dorm's bathroom to get changed
"So, I hear you'll be living here from now on, hope you like pranks as much as we do", the first ghost stated
"We gotta get rid of those things for good", Grim muttered
"No we're not", Evelyn said, walking back into the room, running a brush through her hair then walking back toward the door, "I'm off to school, stay here, I'll be back soon after",
"No, I'm going with you, human", Grim stated
"You remember what the headmaster said", Evelyn reminded, "you can probably walk with me to school, but you can't enter",
"Got it", Grim said, walking out the door, Evelyn sighed, following Grim, outside, toward the campus Main Street, "Wow, so this is Main Street, huh, this is incredible, I didn't get to see much of it yesterday", Grim took notice of the seven statues, "what's the deal with these seven statues, all their faces look pretty scary, like this lady here looks like she's got some real anger issues",
"You don't know the Queen of Hearts", a boy asked
"Queen of Hearts, is she some kinda big deal", Grim asked
"The Queen of Hearts ruled over Wonderland", Evelyn explained, the three gazing at the statue
"She was a strict woman who prized order above all, she wouldn't tolerate a rose being off color", the boy explained, "or her playing card-soldiers being out of step, she basically ruled over a kingdom of madness, but none of her subjects dared to defy her, if they did, the penalty was decapitation",
"Wah, that is seriously messed up", Grim said in shock
"That's the Queen of Hearts", Evelyn muttered
"Puttin' that aside... who're you now", Grim asked
"Name's Ace, I'm a first-year student here, as of... today, pleased to meetcha", Ace introduced
"Evelyn, First-year, nice to meet you too", Evelyn greeted
"I'm Grim, I'm a prodigy who's plannin' to be, like, the greatest mage who ever lived", Grim stated, "So, tell me, Ace, is that lion with a scar in the eye a famous ruler too",
"Of course, that's the King of Beasts who ruled the Savanna", Ace explained, "but he wasn't born into the throne, he had to earn it through hard work and elaborate schemes, when he became king, he decreed that the hyenas would be pariahs no more, and should live among his subjects as equals",
"Scar didn't have the best childhood, and wanted to surpass his brother", Evelyn added
"Sounds like a great guy, not everyone's able to look past social status like that", Grim said, "who's the lady with the octopus legs",
"The Sea Witch who lived in an underwater grotto", Ace explained, "she basically devoted her life to helping troubled merfolk, if they were willing to pay the price, she'd help them change their appearance, find love, whatever",
