A Visit Turned Imprisonment

(The Next Day, Ramshackle Dorm)

"Check it out, Evelyn, we got a whole blanket of snow out here", Grim said, as the two were up and dressed, both were ready for their daily tasks that Grim unfortunately applied for.

"No wonder it seemed colder than before", Evelyn muttered

"Yeah, maybe the fire fairies are feelin' the chill, too; better bring 'em some firewood", Grim stated, "ooh, and I can check the kitchen an' see if they got any leftovers while I'm there",

"You and your stomach", Evelyn mumbled as the two walked into school, making their way to the cafeteria and putting the wood in the fireplace, both stood in front of the fire fairy in silence until a sound came from the kitchens with a smell of food, walking into the kitchens, both Grim and Evelyn saw a few Scarabia students cooking, a familiar face guiding the students

"Once you're done cooking the vegetables, boil the thawed meat", Jamil instructed, "don't forget to add the nuts once the oil is heated",

"Yes, sir", a student said

"Vice housewarden, will one tablespoon of spices be enough", another student asked

"The housewarden's palate veers spicy, add another teaspoon", Jamil said

"What's goin' on in here, it's winter break, but the kitchen's full of students", Grim said, gaining Jamil's attention

"Hm, you're...", Jamil began

"Hi, nice to see you again", Evelyn greeted

"Yes, we had a brief chat back when I got injured before the Spelldrive tournament", Jamil stated with a smile, "your names were... Evelyn and Grim, yes",

"Dang, you got a good memory, uhhh... what was your name again", Grim asked

"It's Jamil, Jamil Viper, vice housewarden of Scarabia Dorm", Jamil introduced, "I make it a point to memorize people's names and faces; not to mention, you two have made quite the names for yourselves since you first enrolled; you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone at this school who doesn't know who you are",

"Whoa... really, y'hear that, Evelyn, we're famous", Grim announced

"At any rate... why are you here on campus when it's winter break", Jamil asked

"we ain't got anywhere to go home for the holidays", Grim said, "not to mention, the headmage personally gave us a super-special job",

"A job that you signed us up for", Evelyn muttered

"I'm as diligent and competent as they come, only makes sense that the headmage would turn to me when he needs help", Grim stated

"Oh, is that a fact, the headmage personally asked you, you say...", Jamil said before muttering, "this could be my chance...",

"Hm, didn't catch that", Grim said

"I said that is the headmage is relying on you, you must be a tremendous talent indeed", Jamil lied,

"Sorry to interrupt, Vice housewarden, but I'm done preparing the vegetables", a student said

"That soup you're makin' looks pretty good, I ain't ever smelled anything like it before", Grim stated

"It's a traditional Scalding Sands recipe, you see... wait, an idea occurs to me", Jamil said, "I'm sure something brought us together, would you care to join us for our meal",

"Really, you mean it", Grim asked

"Absolutely, it won't take much longer to finish, why don't you two lend a hand", Jamil said, both Grim and Evelyn agreed, putting her hair up and rolling up her long sleeves, both Grim and Evelyn began helping the students out and cooking a delicious meal with Jamil's help.
