My year has been quite eventful. Some good, some bad, some crazy, but overall a satisfying one. I've been living at Mothers for a couple of days now, and tomorrow, I start my new job which I'm super excited for. Its in the downtown area at one of the best tapas restaurants in the city. I'm so thrilled about it because I've always wanted to work in that field. I would love to land a position in the kitchen some day, cooking up some amazing food, but for now, I'll be a waitress and focusing on learning the ropes.
The pay at my job isn't bad. It's $1.50 higher than minimum wage, and I was told by Jimmy the bartender when I went in to pick up my uniform, that the tips were amazing! This is music to my ears since Im hoping to save up for my own place before the spring rolls around. As I sit on my bed looking at the G.E.D diploma that mother insisted on putting up on my wall, I can't help but feel so proud of myself. I'm doing it! I'm finally back on track and accomplishing my goals.
I received my certificate the weekend before I moved out of Elaina's apartment, and of course, she insisted on one last party before I left. You know.... to celebrate my passing the test and all. I agreed and we had a great time until Shawn showed up picking a fight with the lot of us. Apparently, someone mentioned to him that I was moving out, and he was furious that I hadn't shared the news with him. I should know where my daughter is at all times! He exclaimed in a drunken state. He was ridiculous and completely of line, but Elaina and I managed to handle the situation quickly and quite well.
Lucas was also there that night. It was the first time I had seen him since we shared our last kiss just two weeks before. That was an easy kiss to start—but a hard one to end. We kissed for about ten minutes and every time I would try to pull away, he'd just bring me back in. Then whenever he would start to pull away, I would bring his hand down to his side, holding onto them so tight. As if to say—don't let go of me just yet. We knew we needed to stop, and I promise you that we tried several times, but we just couldn't let go of each other.
A cat! It was a crazy black alley cat running through the yard and hissing at an unbearable level that snapped us out of our state. We looked at the cat, then each other, nodded our heads and quickly parted. I don't know what Lucas was thinking of at that moment, but as for me, I knew that black cat was a sign. A warning if you will.
As I walked towards the gate, I could hear his footsteps behind me, along with the fast pace of his breathing. I wanted to run back and comfort him. And my heart broke into pieces as I opened the gate and I walked away. Never looking back.
Anyway, fourteen days has past since then, and we've stayed away from one another. Neither one of us has made an effort to hang out as friends, and it was becoming clear that he and I would most likely just disappear from each other's lives. Especially when he didn't say a single word to me at the party, and has changed the direction in which he walked to work. I don't blame him because deep inside, I know it's for the best.
