Lucas was due back at work by Monday morning, so boarding a plane tonight was definitely a must. A full day had already been taken from us, and without knowing when we would be able to see each other again, today had to be as perfect as possible. Last night, Lucas and I planned a picnic at the lake. The plan was to come up with a plan on how we're going to manage our relationship, and Lucas is hoping to bond with Sofie. We're already aware of the fact that moving to New York isn't an option for now, and since Lucas wants to keep his job, we're going to continue the long distance relationship in the meantime.
I've got so much to consider these days. Especially when it comes down to pressing assault charges on Shawn, and making sure that he pays for what he's done. I really did tried my best to work things out with him in a calm manner, and even considered a mutual agreement in regards to Sofie's visitations, but that's not going to happen now. Instead, I'll be fighting for full custody and I'll never have to worry about my baby being around that monster ever again. For once in my life, I'm taking this all the way. Shawn will know not to mess with me ever again!
Isabella knew I needed solid proof to show in court, so she had taken pictures of my face and body last night, and I printed them this morning. I hate that Sofie would be in the middle of a court battle, but this is necessary. Why was I so sure that Shawn wouldn't lay a hand on me after all this time? Why did I assume that dodging Shawn's fists was a thing of the past? I let my guard down and I feel so stupid because of it. But I need to take this seriously and understand that one day, Shawn can easily become aggressive towards Sofie. As a matter of fact, he seems to be worse these days so I shouldn't put it past him. Yesterday's beating proved that. I will fight back until he's given the time in jail he deserves, and I'll make sure a restraining order is in place when he gets out.
Mom, do you have a cooler? I shout from the bottom of the stairs. I don't Cheyenne, but I can pick one up today if you need me to. What do you want it for anyway? She asks. I hadn't told her that Lucas and I had planned a picnic by the lake today, because I'm positive that she wouldn't approve. Not because I'll be with Lucas— but because of what happened to me last night. I know my mom and she probably believes that Shawn is out there. Waiting to catch me again.
CHEYENNE! My mother yelled in frustration. Are you sure that stepping out is a good idea—especially after what happened yesterday? There you go. I knew she'd be worried about that. I'll be fine Mom. The police were headed to Shawn's house last night to make an arrest, so I doubt he's out and about. Shawn is slick Cheyenne, and I very much doubt that the cops found him. My guess is, he's hiding out somewhere. She is right about Shawn being slick, so I should definitely call the police station just to make sure that Shawn's been detained.
I know I can't afford to be so relaxed about my situation, so I closed the door, and pick up the phone to call the thirteenth district police station. After a quick explanation to the police officer, I get placed on hold, while the most annoying tune plays in the background. This is bullshit! Why are they taking so long to help me? Thank goodness I'm not someone who's calling in an emergency.
Twenty two minutes later, I'm still waiting on someone to let me know if Shawn's been arrested. Fuck! I can't continue to hold, because Lucas will be here any minute and I'm yet to pack up Sofie's diaper bag. I guess I'll try again, after I pick up the cooler. Mom! I shout up the stairs. Can you keep an eye on Sofie while I run to the Walgreens for a foam cooler? Just call Lucas and have him pick one up. She suggests. I tried that Mom. I called him twice and he doesn't answer. He's probably driving this way as we speak. I responded, and headed out the door.
I'm a block away from the store when I notice a black truck driving slowly beside me. It looks very suspicious, and so I decide to keep my eyes on it, as I continue to walk. The window on the driver's side is slightly opened, and I can notice the upper portion of a man's head. He seems to be dark in tone and has dark curly hair. I can't say that I recognize him at all. Just relax Cheyenne... you're clearly nervous because of what happened yesterday. I silently tell myself. I take a deep breath and begin to cross the street, but when I finally reach the curb, a stranger jumps out of the truck, covers my mouth, and tosses me into the back seat. I panic as I begin to yell and fight my way out, but there are too many men in here holding me down, and I'm forced to realize that there's no way I'm getting out.
So you called the cops on me huh? I hear a familiar voice say. I look to my right, and sitting there with a long cut on the side of his face, is none other than Shawn. Why am I so stupid? Why would I walk the streets by myself without confirming that Shawn was arrested? Mother was right and she is going to be so upset that i ignored her warning.
I look at Shawn, and I want to yell and scream at him, but I can't form a single word. His stare is the same as yesterday. Cold, dark and hungry with the desire to hurt me. I'm scared because he's always enjoyed torturing me, but this is different. He has never solicited the help of anyone else. I just know... that if I make it out of this, I will never be the same.
I tell you all the time not to fuck me over Cheyenne, but you never learn do you? You fail to understand that I cant be fucked with. And in case you're wondering, I did get arrested last night. But you knew that my mother would bail me out. He continues to say. With such an eerie set of eyes that I can't help but grip the seat in front of me and brace for whatever is to come.
Thanks to my mom, I have this time to show you the consequences of going behind my back. Oh no, am I in for the worst beating yet? I think I might be. I bring my forehead to my knees and began to pray. Please God... help me! I knew what was coming, but nothing, absolutely nothing prepares me for what I see as we enter an abandoned warehouse. Standing before me, being held in place by three guys, is Lucas. Blood covering his mouth from his busted lip, and a dark ring already forming around his right eye.
