Makalipas ang ilang oras na ay nasa kwarto na ang lahat. Nakabalik na ang Mommy at Daddy ni Gerald at pati si Tita Susan ay gising na din. Habang naghahanda sila sa pagbisita kay Joy sa ICU ay biglang pumasok ng kwarto si Dra. Sanchez. Nakita ni Gerald ang alarming facial expression nito kaya kinabahan sya.
“What happened doc?” tensyonadong tanong nya.
Tinignan ni Dra. Sanchez sa mata si Gerald pagkatapos ay tumingin sa lahat.
“Ahm, I don’t know how will I start but..” ani ng doctora.
Lalong kinabahan si Gerald, his heart beats rapidly. He gave a questioning look at the doctor.
“About an hour ago, Joy had an arrest. This is her second arrest within 24hours. Gerald, Im afraid on the third time she would not survive. We are suspecting that there is some internal hemorrhage somewhere that we overlooked. We are doing now some series of test and we’re still waiting for the result. Based on my assessment with the result of some test, she is deteriorating. We our doing our best to save her but still her body is unresponsive with all the medications. I came here to tell you that please prepare yourself for what might happen to her anytime now.”
Napatulala ang lahat, nanatiling nakatingin kay Dra. Sanchez. Habang si Gerald ay nakayuko lang habang nagsasalita and doctor. Parang pinagbagsakan ng langit at lupa ang pakiramdam nya, ayaw tanggapin ng isip nya ang mga narinig. Ayaw nya ring makita ang mga reaction ng mga kapamilya nila. He froze and didn’t know what to do.
He saw his tears fell down on the floor. “Oh God, why? Why?” he whispered.
Nilapitan naman agad sya ng Daddy nya at hinawakan sa balikat. “Son, be a man! Your children and your wife needs you to be strong for them.. Don’t lose hope!”
Those words from his father gives him the courage. He looked up to Dra. Sanchez.
“Can we see her for the last time?” he calmly said.
“Alright! We will allow you to see her, we will give you 15minutes each to see her in the glass window..”
Tuluyan ng napaiyak si Tita Susan, pati si Benjie na kinakitaan nila ng pagiging matatag ay napaiyak na din kasama si Perly. Niyakap ni Gerald si Tita Susan, hindi sila makapaniwala na sasapitin ni Joy ang ganitong sitwasyon. Naluluha naman ding napayakap si Mommy Vangie kay Ken na blankly ang expression coz he saw Joy when she was transferred to CT Scan. He saw how lifeless she was. Hindi na nya makita yung masayahing Joy na kilala nya, he just can’t tell it to them because he don’t want to add the burden they are feeling right now.
“Paging Dra Sanchez! Paging Dra. Sanchez kindly proceeds to ICU now! Paging Dr. Mañiego.. Dr. Mañiego.. You’re needed in the ICU now!”
Announcement na bumasag sa katahimikan nila sa loob ng kwarto. Nang marinig nila yun ay parang tumigil ang oras, pigil hininga na lang nilang pinagmasdan ang doctor sa paglabas ng kwarto. Alam na nila na ang tawag na iyon sa doctor ay para kay Joy.
