One Week LaterIt had only been a week since Y/n's surgery. Everything for the most part was going well, given the odds. But that still didn't mean y/n was out of the woods. Even the doctor had told Hailee that y/n wouldn't be out of the woods, and to hold on for hope with each passing day. And with each passing day, Hailee would count it as a miracle when y/n would wake up with a smile on her face.
One week of worry, one week of sleepless night, one week of trying to hold on to that hope. One week, of Hailee losing y/n little by little with each passing day.
"What are you doing here, Niall" Hailee placed the water bucket down, moving away from the Rose guard y/n had been planting since the surgery. Something to keep her occupied for a short while, before moving on to something else. It was y/n's decision and Hailee didn't want to deny her that.
Niall gave a soft smile, slowly walking closer to the younger girl.
"I'm not here to fight, promise. I just want to see y/n. Where is she?" he asked kindly.
"W-well"
"She's not home?" Niall said, trying to look past Hailee and try to peek inside the house.
Hailee looked down on the ground, avoiding eye contact. Rubbing her arm. "She is, but--"
"What? Is something wrong?"
"Excuse me, Ms. Hailee" Y/n called out. Niall almost didn't recognize the girl that walked shyly, peaking her head out the door. Y/n looked at Niall before shifting her gaze onto Hailee. Martini ran out but couldn't go far since her leash pulled her back. Y/n rushed to the small puppy, helping her up, then decided just to carry her.
Niall blinked a few times, trying to replace the image in front of him. The girl who he hated for being overbearing, cool calm collective, wasn't the girl he saw before him. Not now anyways. Besides the bandages wrapped around her head, a new hair cut that had her left head shave while the other side was a bit past her ears. She still looked and talked the same, but something about y/n made Niall question if it was really her.
"I'm going to take tini for a walk" y/n smiled kissing martini on her head.
"Stay on the trail, and don't go too far" Hailee said. Y/n nodded her head, walking past the two.
"Y/n... she didn't recognize me just now?" Niall said, confused at what just happened. He was expecting a shouting matching, anger from the girl, maybe another punch, but nothing close to... that.
Hailee only shook her head. "Since the surgery a week ago... one day she'd say 'My love, wifey or baby' look at me like I'm her wife, with love and admiration. And other days she'd say, 'who are you?' For two days ago, I think she forgot her name is Y/n Y/Ln" Hailee explained. "Y/n was struggling so much and was disturbed...I just tell her I'm her caretaker, some who works at this house." Hailee shrugged. "It comes and goes, her memory. The doctor says y/n would either forget entirely, recover from memory loss, or it will continue like that for the rest of her days."
"Is she okay though. Like--"
"Every day she wakes up is a miracle. Every day she keeps waking up, will be a miracle until she is fully cancer free."
Niall took in everything Hailee was saying. He said goodbye to the young girl. There was a part of him that wanted to get in his car and drive away. But the other part, the part that was controlling his legs, began to fallow y/n down a hiking trail.
After a while, they reached a nice dock by the lake. Niall turned around seeing the lake house in the distance. He laughed to himself. Of course, y/n would have a huge mansion next to a lake. Shaking his head at the insanely rich thing y/n would do, he turned around now coming face to face with the superstar. He jumped just a bit, a little startled that he didn't hear her footsteps getting close.
