Back and Forth

hailee and Elijah both sat down at the kitchen table. A nice hot of coffee was placed in front of them, but neither of them took a sip. They both just stared into the dark abyss they found themselves in.

After what happened last night with y/n, hailee was scared. She had never seen y/n so weak and fragile before. Never seen y/n a girl who was always calm, and smiling, become so... angry. And neither of the two sitting together knew what to do.

After y/n left earlier that morning without telling hailee, she decided to call up Elijah and try to figure out a way to help. A way to convince y/n to stop being stubborn and get treatment. Even if her chances to extend her life was minimum it was still worth it to try.

Hailee felt anger rising in the pit of her stomach-

But by the time y/n got home it was like the two finally got out of their trance realizing they had been sitting at the table for hours without saying a word. Almost forgetting they were there in the first place.

Y/n picked up some food on her way home, since she was still too tired to cook herself, and though Elijah could have made something, it didn't seem to occur to the two of them that this was even a possibility.

When they were done eating, Hailee decided that she wanted to be the one to clean up, and get her mind off of everything. Wiping the counter top clean, and putting the take out boxes in the trash when Elijah came in behind her.

"You and I need to have a talk, Haiz" he said, standing in the doorway and blocking her escape. They were suppose to talk when y/n was out, but that never happened. Elijah stop there, his arms folded. Hailee stared at him for a minute. He stared back. Then he made a tutting sound. "I know what im about to say might sound, bad but I want you to remember, im not your enemy, haiz." he said. "I'm here to help the both of you"

"I know" hailee said, giving the older man a tight lip smile. She took out another clean cloth to wipe an already clean countertop.

Elijah reached forward and gentle took the cloth out of hailee's hand.

"We both want y/n to get help, and we both want to her to get better, but... We can't force her to do something she doesn't want to do. And then the time will come when she-"

"Elijah"

"We need to talk about what's going to happen" he sighed softly, stepping back just a step.

"No, we don't. I've seen her sick, I've seen her when she has been overworked and tired. She'll be better tomorrow" Hailee glared at him. "And everything will be like it was supposed to"

Elijah looked at hailee for a mere second before his eyes shifted up towards the while ceiling watching the fan slowly twirl around. He let out another sigh before rubbing his face with his hands feeling the sweat run down his face. Hailee was surprised to see Elijah angry. Really angry to the point of, what hailee wanted to describe of holding back tears of frustration.

Elijah was angry, but perhaps maybe he wasn't angry at her.

Hailee took out yet another cloth and started wiping again, just so she wouldn't have to look at her father-in-law. She wiped all the way over to the sink and sink to glance out of the window.

Y/n was jumping around holding a toy as she played around with martini. The small dog tugged on the rope and y/n did the same, but was trying hard not to hurt the puppy. Then the pup let go, moving on to another toy. A tiny soccer ball. Y/n turned around seeing hailee through the window and waved. Hailee returned the gesture smiling at her.

"She'll seem better tomorrow" Elijah said, his voice huskier, "But she wont be, Hailee"

This was all kinds of wrong, and hailee knew it. She turned back to him. "I'll make take her medicine, and she will get better" she said. "Thats how illness work, right. You get sick take medicine and you get better"
