"My account number? Why?"
"So I can pay and leave. I have a lot of things to do and I don't have the time."
"Yemi's own didn't work?" Aria saw his anger level rise but she had to ask. How did he expect her to believe that four different banks were having network issues just when he wanted to make the transfer. He gave her a look that made her look away. "Fine," she sighed and called out the account number to him.
"I've sent it," Kachi said after a few minutes.
"Yemi uses Chase Bank too."
"And?" His eyebrows drew together and he looked at her like she was stupid.
"The same one that I use." He continued to look at her. "How come it worked now but didn't when you wanted to transfer to Yemi?"
"What kind of question is that?" He didn't wait for her to answer. "My receipt please."
What was wrong with this man? Sure they had receipts but no one had ever asked for one in the entire two years Aria worked at Infinte.
"I have things to do ma. Please get the receipt."
She turned and hurried downstairs to find the item. She was intent on asking Yemi about the whereabouts of the receipt but the girl wasn't behind the bar counter.
"Kunle!" The man appeared almost immediately. "Where do we keep receipts?"
"Receipts?" He sounded amused, like he couldn't believe someone was asking for a receipt. Me too! Aria wanted to say but just waved her hand for him to hurry. He went behind the counter and pulled it from one of the drawers. "please return it when you're done. Odogwu will make a fuss if we misplace this one."
"Thank you," she called as she flew back up the stairs.
He was back to tapping on his phone when she found him again and she was tempted to stretch her head and see just what he was doing on his phone. Aria confirmed that she'd indeed received the money before issuing him the receipt. He didn't say anything, not even a courteous thank you before pushing up and walking past her.
"Wait." She stared in horror as he slowly turned, realizing that she'd indeed called out to him. What was wrong with her? Her curiosity was not what the intense look this man was leveling her with right now.
"What is it?"
"Do you really not remember me or you're just acting like you don't?"
Kachi's eyes held hers then traveled down her body, all the way to her feet and then slowly made his way back up. Aria held herself as stiffly as she could and tried her best to bear his heated gaze. When he her gaze again, there was a smirk on his face, like he'd inspected her and found her wanting.
"Am I supposed to know you?" She had somehow expected his cruel nature to shine at moments like this but she was still surprised that he'd said it.
"What? Yesterday—"
"No," he said simply and turned back to make his way downstairs and Aria could only watch his retreating form.
She'd never been this embarrassed!

Usman was waiting as expected and he had the engine running before Kachi even got into the car. Kachi liked that. The man knew time was very important and he always worked efficiently. He made a mental note to give the guy a break this coming weekend."Back to work?" Usman asked as he pulled out of the club's parking lot.
He thought about it for a while and sighed, remembering that his father was in town and he'd yet to even call Rose. "Home."
Usman nodded and kept on driving. He really liked that the man hadn't asked what home and had understood just where he meant. Maybe he'd give the man a nice bonus with this month salary.
He undid his top two shirt buttons before dialing. She answered on the first ring.
"Good afternoon sir. Are you still coming back to the office?" Tope asked.
"No. I'll send you an account number and the details. Help me find out if there's anything unusual about it."
"Okay sir."
The next call would not go as smoothly as he wanted, he already knew so he mentally prepared himself for the conversation. This one didn't answer immediately even though he was a hundred percent sure she was with her phone and was watching it ring. It was typical Rose. He had to dial again, something he hated doing and was about giving up when she finally answered.
"Why are you calling me, Kachi?" He heard the annoyed tone and forced himself to not react.
"You're my girlfriend are you not? Why shouldn't I call you?"
"Girlfriend? We're in this same Lagos and I've not seen you in three months," she began her rant and he let her. There was no point reminding her that it wasn't part of the agreement, she had the upper hand because he'd given her that title. "Sometimes I think it's Usman I'm dating. I call him every fucking day and you're always busy. They don't even allow me into your compound anymore."
"Don't swear, Rose."
"Don't tell me what to do!"
"Fine," he sighed, wishing he could just be done with this conversation. "I'm sorry. I'll create more time for us. What can I do to make it up to you?"
"It's not like I want you to do anything. But there's this trip I've been wanting to go on forever." She dragged the forever and Kachi almost cursed at her. This conversation was getting too long for his liking.
"Just let me know when and what you need."
"You've not even asked where and I'm going with my friends," she said.
"I said okay. Whatever you want." She began to squeal and he raised his voice so she could focus. "Rose!"
"Yes baby?"
"I'm picking you up this evening. Please dress decently. I'll be at your place by seven."
"Where are we going?" He could feel her excitement through the phone.
"Dinner."
"Dinner at where? With who?"
"Just be ready. I have to go now, okay? By seven sharp." He hung up and shut his eyes. He was already tired and they hadn't even gone for dinner yet.
His phone started ringing almost immediately after he dropped it on the seat beside him. It was Rose and he knew she would call for about five more times before giving up. She probably wanted to ask trivial questions about what to wear and where they were going so he set his phone on silent and shut his eyes.
