Usman was waiting for them with a different car when they got back to the airport in Lagos. Aria was confused because Kachi's car was there too. It was when Kachi handed her bags to Usman and left for his car that she understood. They were not going together.
She didn't know how to interpret that action. The rest of the week she'd spent with him in Anambra had been bliss. She had seen a completely different side of him; one that was softer and romantic. She'd felt like they had a real relationship. On their last night there, he'd gotten her a gift; a simple gold necklace which when she checked online she'd seen it cost up to three million naira. After he placed the necklace around her neck, he'd held her tight and they'd made love. Kachi had even asked if she was using kayanmata on him.
Even on the plane, he'd gotten window seats and held her hand for take-off and when they landed. He even went as far as carrying her bags. Now he was leaving without even a goodbye? Would she even see him again? He was reverting back to his cold self.
"Kachi," she called just as he opened his car door. She didn't know what to say so when he turned back she just started at him. He held her gaze for a few minutes before turning back around.
"Usman, drop her at her place and come back. We have a lot of work," he said and just like that he was gone.
Usman opened the door for her and she silently got in, wondering what had gone wrong. She hadn't expected him to date her, but him leaving her like this rubbed her wrong. When they got to her apartment, Usman bade her goodnight and he drove off too.
Pete was waiting outside her door and she'd almost forgotten she told him she was coming back today. She immediately ran into his arms to hug him. It had been too long since she saw him.
"How was Anambra?" he asked when they finally broke off their hug.
"It was great. I enjoyed myself thoroughly." She opened her door and he walked in with her bags.
"You love this guy, babe."
"What?" She didn't want to think about Kachi and that word in the same sentence, especially now that it looked like he was acting up again. When they'd been in Anambra, she'd entertained the thought a little and found that she didn't mind being in love with this man. But now, she wasn't so sure.
"Your eyes are so bright and you look very happy. The last time I saw you like this was when you first started dating Ife."
"Peter, I'm not in love with him. I barely tolerate him," she said with a frown.
"Whatever you say, love. I just came to share my own good news. Yinka and I are back together."
"For real?" she squealed, hugging him again. "Tell me everything."

Kachi thought Rose was past this. He watched as she kept on crying while she held out her phone so he could see pictures of him with Aria at the airport.
"Tell me who she is," she sobbed. "She's the reason we're not working abi?"
"Rose, you're stalking me? What right do you have to do that?"
"Ah! Is that what you'll tell me? You're avoiding the main issue. Who is she?"
"We had an agreement. I begged you to let me break up so you could move on with your life. You refused and said I was free to see anyone I liked on the side. So why are you acting up now?" Kachi was furious.
He had a lot of work piled up since he'd been away for two weeks but he'd gotten a call from Rose's friend who said she was scared her friend would do something stupid. He'd understood immediately and rushed down from the airport. It was not the first time she'd attempted suicide all to manipulate him. He didn't know if she was bluffing but he wasn't ready to find out. He couldn't have this one on his conscience too.
"You and your father took me from my home with the promise of marriage. Now you want to leave me for this blackie?"
Rose was blowing everything out of proportion. His father had convinced him to date Rose for his public image and promised her father marriage. However, Kachi had made sure to let her family know that marriage was not guaranteed and that they had to know each other first before deciding that step. She was speaking as if he'd not done his absolute best for her.
He'd made sure she finished her education outside the country and footed all the bills. He'd taken care of her family and he still did, putting her younger ones through school too. When she'd gotten back to Nigeria, he'd been happy, hoping that they could build their relationship. It had taken only a month for him to find out Rose had been cheating on him from day one and this was a woman he'd only slept with twice.
He'd been heartbroken and that was when they'd agreed he was free to do whatever since she didn't want to end the relationship.
"Rose, let's not start dragging who's wrong or right."
"Block her. Now." She stared at him with so much pain and he didn't know what to do.
"I can't," he said simply.
"You can't?" She grabbed the bottle of pills they'd been fighting over when he first came. He didn't even know what drugs were inside, he didn't want to find out.
"Rose stop. I'll stay away from her. Drop the bottle."
She did and gave him a watery smile. "I just can't live without you, Kachi. I love you too much."
"I know." He gathered her into his arms as she continued to sob. He wondered if it was time he sent her back to London so she could see her therapist. The doctor had assured him she was getting better but from all he'd seen, Rose was still terribly sick.
