"Good evening sir, ma," the waiter greeted. "What would you like to have?""What protein do you guys have in the pepper soup?" Kachi asked, finally taking his gaze off the woman. Aria refused to look at her, once was enough. There was no way she would let Kachi know that she'd compared the woman's light skinned beauty to hers, no way.
"There's chicken, goat, fish. We can also do the one with cow intestines and towel," he said, bringing out his pad and paper.
"I'll take goat meet, bring a bottle of malt for me," Kachi said. "Ask her what she wants." He pointed at Aria.
"I'll take chicken and just get me water."
"Why water?" Kachi asked after the waiter hurried off.
"Because it's what I want." She put enough effort so her voice didn't come out snappy. She couldn't believe he'd dragged her out here to watch this woman sing. So all this excitement was for one yellow pawpaw.
When he picked up his phone and began typing on it, she looked at the woman. She was slim and looked delicate with her small stature. Aria noticed how effortlessly sexy she looked in a crop top, jean booty shorts and sandals. The woman's navel was pierced and she could see a glint of silver each time she bent towards the mic. If Aria wasn't so jealous that the woman had Kachi's attention, she would probably like her.
Their food was out in no time and she appreciated the fast service, letting the aromatic smells of the soup warm her. She started eating and soon forgot about where she was, the soup was that good. They'd even diced the chicken into small bits that she could easily chew. She couldn't imagine herself fighting with a drumstick at this posh establishment and with Kachi beside her.
He ate slowly, his gaze back on the woman, convincing her that it was the main reason he'd brought them here, not the food. The song ended and the small audience erupted in applause, Kachi being one of them. He even stood up and began to walk to the stage where the lady was taking a bow. She beamed when she looked up to see him, letting out an excited scream as she hurried into Kachi's open arms.
Aria had seen enough, she bent her head and focused on the rest of her food. She noticed a passing waiter and ordered for another serving with cold Malt. She wasn't going to give Kachi the satisfaction of leaving and she'd definitely not lose her appetite because of a man! Infact she'd act so unaffected by the woman.
She heard when they got to the table, the woman's melodious voice announcing her presence. Kachi pulled out the seat beside his for her to seat and then waved a waiter over.
"Zariah, I want you to meet someone special," he said after he'd ordered food for the stranger.
So she wasn't special? Aria looked up at the woman in front of her, noting the numerous piercings on her ears and her dimpled smile. What was so special about this woman that had to be pointed out?
"This is Adanna," he continued. "Ada, meet Zariah."
So she was just Zariah. Nothing special attached.
"It's an absolute pleasure," Ada said, stretching her hand out, her smile still in place.
"Yeah, same here," Aria said and gave her a smile, briefly letting their hands touch before pulling away. Her food arrived and she immediately focused on it.
"Thought you wanted just water." Kachi chuckled and when she didn't say anything else, he focused his attention on Ada. "I need to get a picture of this. Chike would kill to be here." He brought out his phone and took a picture of them as Ada laughed and punched his arm.
Aria ate quietly. What would she do with all her anger? It's not like she could demand to leave. Knowing Kachi, he'd just embarrass her in front of his special friend.
"Chike and I are just friends," Ada said. "why would he kill to be here?"
"Just friends," Kachi joked. "if you say so. He's closest to you and I believe he's your best friend bah."
Chike? She knew the man. He had been at the club with Kachi that night and if she hadn't been so infatuated with meeting the latter again, she'd have probably danced for him. The man was also good looking and almost as tall as Kachi.
"Kachi we're just friends. Nothing more biko."
Kachi's phone rang just then and he showed Ada the phone before he answered. The woman rolled her eyes and then turned to look at Zariah.
"I'm with your babe o. You've seen the pictures right?" Kachi said then listened for a few seconds before laughing. He stood up and moved away from the table, leaving the two women.
"Don't mind him, Kachi is always like this. Very unserious human being o. He jokes a lot," Ada said.
Unserious and jokes a lot? Who? Aria almost laughed at the absurdity of it.
"How long have you guys been dating?" she asked.
"We're not dating," Aria said simply and Ada stared at her for a few seconds.
"Oh, okay. Would you like me to introduce you to some of my friends? Chike, Azu and Bode? They're all single," the woman said and then laughed. She had this girly exuberance about her and there was a genuine smile on her face.
"I've met them and I'm not interested in dating them, thank you."
"You like Kachi?" Ada asked and Aria decided that was all the conversation she intended on having. "wait, you've met Chike? Where? How come I don't know you?"
Thankfully, Kachi returned with the server on his heels and Ada got distracted by her food.
"You good?" He finally turned to look at Aria.
"Yep. Very," she said and sipped her drink.
"Are you having fun?"
"Mhmm." She smiled. God forbid she admits that he and his butterfly friend had annoyed her. Her only consolation was that the two were not dating and Kachi seemed to think Ada had something with Chike. Still Aria felt jealous that Ada knew a part of Kachi that she couldn't even dream about. Imagine Kachi being unserious with her and cracking jokes. It was even harder to picture, yet this girly woman had seen that part of him.
***
Jealousy no good oo. Jealousy no good o.
Aria's pained but what can she do? What do you think about Ada? Like or hate her?
I'm thinking of making this story part one of a series that would follow with Chike, Azu and Bode's stories probably. What do you think? Good idea or not?
Also suggest names you'd like the series to be called please.
