'Knocked over'

A voice echos around me, crying help. My heart beat pulses as I step further in. I ball my hands in a fist nervously. "Hello?" I say as it bounces off the walls. I come to a halt where I spot a figure curled up in a ball in the corner. I hesitated for a moment before walking towards it.

They cry once more making my heart shatter. Hearing them makes me think back to when my mother was alive. Me pleading for help in the dark, where nobody could hear me. They don't sound old enough, I would say around Dustin's age.

I step closer towards them, I could feel my heartbeat beating through my ears. I bend down to my knees carefully, not wanting to scare the them. Once I bend down, they turn their face towards me. It was a young girl, tears stained to her cheeks as she shakes. My heart breaks for her, god knows what they've done to her.

Her eyes start to water. "Help me." She whispers trembling. I let a tear escape through my eye as I extend my hand towards her. She flinches, turning her head towards the wall and holding on it for dear life. "I won't hurt you, I promise." I gently say sincerely, still holding my hand out as I smile faintly.

She hesitates for a moment before carefully placing her hand in mine. She's as cold as ice, I feel her shake as I help her to stand up. I look into her eyes and pull her into an embrace. I wrap my arms around her bony shoulders as she tenses. She finally relaxes, wrapping her arms around mine.

She cry's into my shoulder as I stroke her hair. "I got you. I won't let anything bad happen to you." I whisper, comforting her in time of need. "Thank you." She stammers as we pull away. I look her up in down and feel my heart ache, they've starved her. She's all skin and bone, she has nothing in her. I take my cardigan off and wrap it around her.

"Where is she?" I hear someone say faintly by the door and hear them rush in. I push the girl behind me incase it was one of the guards. It was just Steve. He looks at me seriously. "What the hell do you think your doing!? This is a Russian base you! You ran off without me knowing." He shouts in a whisper pointing at me.

I take no notice of what he's saying right now because I don't want to fight in front of this girl, whose probably been beaten and shouted at her whole life. And I won't put her through the trauma she's went through. I take ahold of her hand and bring her from behind me. Steve widens his eyes as she stands next to me.

"Sweetheart, what's you name?" I question her with a warm smile, letting her know it was okay not to be scared of this man. "I'm...Joey." She stammers nervously. I don't regret walking through that door at all, I'm glad I found her instead of some material which was going to be useless.
