Laughter filled the living room of Olivia and Elliot's single story home. Standing in the middle of the living room were Evie Peyton and Eli. Eli was helping his little sister spin around and showing off her birthday dress, that was covered in pink frosting from her birthday cake.
"She cannot stop giggling," Elliot smiled, as he stood beside Olivia and watched Elliot's two youngest children interact. All the kids were so good with Evie, so today was even better than ever expected.
"Evie beat the odds, El. Of course she's happy. We all are so happy," Olivia breathed, her eyes welling with tears.
Evie was in the hospital for two months after her accident. Her vision had been damaged and they fit her with a pair of glasses to help her see clearly. She was also a seizure sufferer and probably would be for life. They had changed from strictly seizures that force her tiny body to shake, to a variety of ones. Many just caused her to zone out in the distance.
But she was alive, and that is what mattered the most. Elliot and Olivia were prepared to take care of their daughter and ensure she had a happy life, no matter what path she ended up on.
Elliot wrapped his arms around Olivia's body before turning her towards him. He placed soft kisses on her lips before hugging her tightly.
"Getting soft in your old age?" He teased, as he felt his shirt grow wet from Olivia's tears.
"Probably," she admitted with a weak laugh. Olivia parted for Elliot and watched her daughter for a few more moments before heading into the kitchen.
It took a while for Elliot to follow her, but when he did, he found her on her phone. She was scrolling through something quickly, and her face almost looked panicked.
"Uh, are you okay? You look freaked out," Elliot breathed, ensuring that no one would overhear their conversation.
"Elliot, have you used condoms the last few times?" Olivia blurted out, her eyes wide and full of fear.
"Huh?"
"You heard me. Have you used condoms the last few times? I can't remember, and we were in the hospital for a few days last month when Evie's seizures got really bad. So-"
"N-no."
"No? Elliot!" Olivia cried.
"Liv-"
"I missed my pill a few times because Evie was so weak! I wasn't focusing on myself and only on her! El-"
"Is everything okay?" Kathy asked, interrupting the couple. They both turned quickly to look at Kathy, and Olivia had a panic attacked. She gripped on tightly to the counter as her breathing hitched.
"Liv, it's okay," Elliot frowned as he stepped closer to her.
"N-no, it's not okay. This wasn't supposed to happen!"

The kids all spent the night at the house, so by the time everyone was in bed, Olivia was calmer but still not happy. She was so angry at herself, and didn't know what to say.
"Alright, the monitor is on. Evie has had her medicine and Lizzie was guilted by a very sniffling Evie to sleep on the floor in her room. So she can help respond if Evie has a seizure tonight," Elliot spoke, as he came into his shared bedroom. Olivia wasn't in bed yet, so Elliot had to wander to the bathroom to see her.
"Did you hear me?" He asked weakly, from where Olivia was staring at a pregnancy test. She was only a few years shy of forty, and she couldn't believe this was happening again.
"Liv-"
"I heard you, El," she sighed.
"Okay, so can we talk?"
"I get that this is our fault together, but that doesn't stop me from being so angry."
"Angry? Liv, if you are pregnant-"
"I am pregnant, Elliot. These two tests are positive, and it makes me want to scream," Olivia huffed as she moved to throw the tests away. Elliot stopped her and frowned as he locked eyes with her.
"It's a baby, Liv. We didn't expect to have Evie, but she's the best thing to happen to us. We will feel the same way about this baby too," He spoke with a soft smile.
"Evie is a full-time job, Stabler."
"I know that-"
"No, you don't! You work and I stay home all the time with her! I don't even want to imagine trying to chase after her and taking her to all her appointments when I'm super pregnant or holding a newborn!"
"Then what the fuck do you want to do?!" Elliot yelled.
Olivia went silent before shrugging.
"Honestly?"
"Honestly."
"I do not know right now, El. I guess we will have to figure it out, eventually."
///
Elliot didn't sleep that night, especially since he couldn't sleep in the same bed as his girlfriend. There was just so much tension that he knew that he'd just keep her awake with his tossing and turning.
Elliot spent most of his night on the back porch, praying for the first time since Evie's accident. He just wanted answers, so he knew what to do. He wanted to know what to say to his girlfriend.
At around five that morning, he heard his name called from the house, and everyone was wake and listening to Lizzie and Olivia work on Evie as she had a seizure.
"Kids, go into the kitchen," Elliot spoke calmly as he tossed his jacket onto the back of the couch and hurried down the hall.
Elliot stepped into Evie's room and reached for her rescue pen, just in case the seizure lasted for longer than five minutes. Lizzie was helping to hold her sister, while Olivia leaned close to Evie's ear and whispered to her. This usually helped her, and as Elliot watched his girlfriend be the best mom to Evie, he knew the answers that he had been praying for all night.
Evie stopped shaking just under five minutes after her seizure started, and she just opened her eyes and zoned out on the room around her.
"Liv?" Elliot breathed. Olivia looked up from Evie's face and locked eyes with him.
"Yes?"
"I know you aren't sure, but I am. No matter what happens, we will make things work and continue to be happy. I will help to make things easier for you."
