Donghyuck was pacing outside of the door to the classroom on Tuesday, biting at his nails and wondering what the fuck he was going to say to Jeno after everything that had happened during the past few days. Would he be mad at him? Did he think that Donghyuck was really dating that girl? Would this ruin his chances of maybe starting something more with Jeno?

Donghyuck quickly shook the last thought out of his head before it could develop any further. He had no chances of starting any kind of genuine romantic relationship with Jeno, with or without Seohyun ruining his life, and it would be foolish of him to get his hopes up. He tried his best to ignore the pain in his chest when he thought about that as he finally inhaled a deep breath and swung open the door to the classroom.

Jeno shot up in his seat almost immediately as Donghyuck opened the door, and the blonde couldn't help the way his body froze when he met the taller boy's eyes. He smiled sheepishly, nerves twisting in his stomach as he slowly shut the door behind him and made his way over to their desks.

"Sorry for keeping you waiting," Donghyuck mumbled, resolutely avoiding looking at Jeno as he fumbled in his bag for his pencil and notebook. Jeno was silent, which was making the smaller boy feel even more uneasy, and when he finally mustered the courage to glance up at him, Jeno was staring with him with an intensity that shocked him.

"Jeno..."

"So, are we just going to pretend that nothing happened yesterday?" Jeno finally said, and Donghyuck winced at the harshness in his tone.

"Listen, it's not what it looks like-"

"Are you sure? Because it looks like you're breaking one of our rules. Didn't we agree to not date other people while we have this... thing going on?"

"We did, you're right," Donghyuck sighed exasperatedly, already feeling exhausted just from the beginning of the conversation, "that's why I'm trying to explain, but you're not-"

Jeno cut him off once again by crossing his arms and fixing Donghyuck with a stern, scolding look, "That poor girl doesn't even know you're two timing her, you really want to lead her on and break her heart like that? I didn't even know you liked girls-"

"I don't!" Donghyuck finally managed to interrupt, and thankfully that seemed to be enough to stop Jeno's rambling, because he suddenly fell silent and furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.

"I don't like girls, Jeno, I'm gay," he groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration, "that's what I've been trying to say this whole time, but you wouldn't even let me get a fucking word in, asshole."

Jeno blinked slowly as he tried to process, staring up at Donghyuck curiously, "but then why... why did she act like you two were dating?"

"My parents set me up with a date on her over the weekend, that's why I was so stressed last Friday," he started, and Jeno nodded quickly, urging him to continue, "and I think she developed a little crush on me or something, and now she won't leave me the fuck alone."

"Well, did you reject her and make sure she knows you're not interested?" Jeno questioned, and Donghyuck looked at him in bewilderment.

"Gee, Jeno, I never thought about that, that's a wonderful idea," he quipped sarcastically before playfully hitting the taller boy's arm, "of course I fucking rejected her, you dumbass, she just doesn't take no for an answer."

Jeno scoffed and allowed a cheeky smile to spread across his face as he playfully hit Donghyuck's shoulder in return, and the blonde boy couldn't help but grin back. "Hey, at least I made you smile a little bit."

At that, a blush unwillingly dusted the smaller boy's cheeks, and he quickly glanced away and cleared his throat, hoping to god Jeno hadn't noticed. His low chuckle indicated that he had seen it, however, and he swallowed his embarrassment before continuing.

"Anyways, yeah. That's why I've been so upset and stressed lately."

"Donghyuck," Jeno said carefully, and the sudden softness in his tone made Donghyuck instantly look up to meet his eyes, "have you considered telling Seohyun you're gay to get her off your back?"

Donghyuck rolled his bottom lip between his teeth, sighing softly. "Of course I've considered it, but I can't. She knows my parents, she'll definitely tell them and then... I don't even know."

His voice tapered off into a whisper at the end of his sentence, and Jeno looked down at him sympathetically before gently patting his shoulder. "Would it be bad for you if your parents knew?"

"Probably. My whole life, they've always wanted me to be perfect, the poster child for the straight son that gets a great job and marries a pretty girl and starts a family or something like that. I don't know what they'd do if they knew that they'll never get that from me."

Jeno let out a soft hum in understanding before he reached down and gently took the smaller boy's hand into his own, and Donghyuck's eyes widened in surprise as he looked up at him.

"Well, if you ever decide you want to tell them, I'm always here for moral support," he grinned, giving Donghyuck's hand a light squeeze before he reached up with his free hand and fondly ruffled his hair, causing the blonde to blush softly once more.

"Yeah yeah, whatever you say, loser," Donghyuck spluttered quickly, pulling his hand out of Jeno's grip before crossing his arms protectively over his chest as he tried to regain his composure. Jeno just laughed at him, watching him with a look in his eyes that Donghyuck couldn't quite decipher.

"Okay, we can worry about Seohyun and all of her problems later," Jeno started, flipping open his math notebook and looking up at the small boy expectantly, "for now, shall we get started?"

Donghyuck couldn't help but smile a little, and for once in his life he actually felt grateful to be doing math instead of overthinking and letting his anxious thoughts spiral. And maybe, just maybe, he was also smiling because it was sweet that Jeno somehow knew that this distraction was exactly what he needed.

"Yup, let's get to work."
