"So, Donghyuck, how are things going between you and Seohyun?"
They were sat at the dinner table again, where Donghyuck's mom had been watching him with a proud glint in her eyes, while his dad looked deeply smug and satisfied with himself. The blonde fought back the urge to roll his eyes, looking over at the empty seat next to him with sadness blooming in his chest. Haram wasn't here today, she had to stay late at the medical lab to get some work done, which meant that for today he was completely on his own.
"Things are fine, I guess," he responded coldly, shoving a bite of food into his mouth as the smile on his mother's face droppped into a soft frown.
"What do you mean 'you guess'?" She pushed, and it took every ounce of Donghyuck's willpower to resist groaning out loud in frustration.
"Well, I don't exactly enjoy spending time with her," he grumbled under his breath, and his parents exchanged a concerned glance.
"You'll come around, honey, I know you will. You just have to get to know her a little better. Didn't her father say that she had some sort of a crush on you?" His mom quipped, looking back at his father for confirmation of what she just said. He nodded quickly in response, swallowing his food before picking up where his mother left off.
"That's right, Mr. Kim said she quite likes you. Isn't that great, buddy? You're so lucky to have such a beautiful and smart girl like you so much."
"Oh yeah, I'm overjoyed," Donghyuck sighed sarcastically, and his father sighed softly.
"Well, we're inviting the Kims over for dinner on Thursday, so I expect you to be on your best behavior towards her."
Donghyuck instantly stiffened, pausing with his fork mid air before he cleared his throat and looked up at his parents.
"I can't do Thursday, I have tutoring."
"Well, you can cancel, right? It's not that important," his mother protested, and the blonde boy bit the inside of his cheek.
"I can't cancel, the teacher is giving me extra credit for it, but she'll take points off if I miss a day," he lied, in a desperate attempt to not have to skip one of the only things he had to look forward to throughout the week. As expected, his parents furrowed their eyebrows in confusion, but they were under the impression that Donghyuck rarely ever lied to them, so usually they took whatever he said at face value.
"Well, in that case... would it be possible for you to invite him over here instead of going over to his house?"
Donghyuck blinked in surprise, considering the idea for a moment. Of course, this meant that him dressing up was off limits, but they would still be left alone in his room. The thought of maybe doing something in a place where they could easily get caught was a little bit exciting-
Donghyuck shook that thought out of his head as fast as he possibly could, pressing the back of his hand against his warming cheeks as he shrugged. "I guess I could text him and ask."
"Perfect," his mother beamed, "it would be nice for us to meet him, anyways. Plus then you'd get to show off Seohyun to one of your friends! Girls love it when their boyfriends show them off to their friends."
And Donghyuck couldn't help but chuckle quietly to himself, because he figured it would actually most likely end up being him who was shown off, and not by the person his parents would expect.
