PATIENCE IS a virtue that Iona often lacks.
Electricity practically lives on her skin, electrifying her urges to kill, to dominate, to succeed. She's often good at being patient when it came to making good leadership choices, but she's never been patient when an opportunity to strike is open.
She loves war, she thrives in the environment. Putting it off was never an option for her; the thought never even crossed her mind.
Iona sits, shaking from her jitters. By now, adrenaline has long covered up her pain, and she feels nothing but excitement flow through her veins at the idea of fighting until a hundred new tally marks adorn her blade.
Perhaps it's a stupid thing to cherish, but Iona can't help it. Since she was younger, war was what birthed her, what molded her, what took her sister from her, and war is what will end her life.
War is all that Iona Valana knows.
"We fight side-by-side," Echo says, sliding down the wall to sit beside Iona. "It's strange. Normally you are my... dance partner; I guess this time there might actually be a challenge."
Iona scoffed, nudging Echo's shoulder, "Funny. You read my mind."
For a brief moment, it was as if the pair were friends.
Then, everything went black.
Iona could not see Echo's face anymore as the lights flickered out. Instantly, Iona rose to her feet, reaching a hand out to steady herself on the wall.
"What the-"
"They did it..." Iona murmured, taking note of the frigid cold that was now seeping into the room because of the lack of air conditioning. "They turned off the power."
The Grounders celebrated in cheer, happy, joyous laughs reverberating throughout the large room. The plan was working. Iona could practically taste the blood of her foes and smell the sweet scent of freedom.
She began to rally the Grounders, preparing to march them beyond the doors.
She saw a figure running down the hall as the lights flickered back on, and immediately, she said, "Bellamy! You did it!"
However, what she saw instead... was shocking. One armed Mountain Man holding up his arm in surrender. As Echo began to charge on the man, he screamed, "Stop! Your Commander has struck a deal. All of you are free to leave."
The Grounders stopped, glancing between each other.
"Deal? What deal?" Iona questioned, hand warily grazing the hilt of her katana.
"Go," The man said, not answering her question. Instead, he tossed a handful of blankets in the direction of the Grounders, gesturing down the hall, "The door is open."
Iona looked on in confusion, but as her people began racing down the hall, she felt inclined to follow- and soon, she was running to the door, too.

Iona would never forget the sight she saw as she escaped Mt. Weather.
An army of her people, all armed and ready to fight for her escape, standing beyond the doors. They all held lit torches, chanting and cheering once they saw the Grounders leaving through the door.
Iona took note of Clarke's surprised face, and then, she looked at Lexa. The woman had a look of relief on her face and instantly, she was rushing over to bring her cousin into a hug.
"Oh, Ona..." Lexa murmured softly, a small sniffle sounding from her nose, "I'm so glad you're okay."
"I can handle myself, remember?" Iona sighed. She then pointed to the wound on her side and lifted her shirt, "Bit worse for wear, though. Mind calling Reiki for me? I think... I need a nap."
Lexa nodded instantly, pushing the woman in the direction of their troops, yelling, "Tend to her wounds!"
As the woman walked past, however, she overheard Clarke's exchange with Lexa, and it was all too apparent how much Lexa was willing to sacrifice in order to get her cousin back to her.
"What did you do?" Clarke questioned, her voice dropping low.
Lexa didn't hesitate, "What you would have done. I saved my family and my people."
Clarke grit her teeth, "Where are my people?"
"I'm sorry, Clarke," Lexa said; Iona, however, heard nothing in her tone that would suggest her words rang true.
As Iona stumbled into a nearby tent with several Grounders chasing after her, trying to help heal her wounds, she finally felt the fatigue eat away at her.
Her body was sore, she was covered in blood, her mind was racing with a hundred thoughts per second; overall, however, Iona had survived Mt. Weather.
Yet, one question still rang throughout her head:
Did Bellamy?
