JEFF
I'm older, I should know better.
I really should.
Kissing Bible was a bad idea the first time.
It's still a bad idea and yet, I can't seem to pull away. We are quite evenly matched physically and yet... I am weak when it comes to this man.
What happened to that pep talk I gave myself... and was that just yesterday?"
"Aren't you curious?" he whispers, his breath hot against mine. "Don't you even wonder for a minute what it'd be like..."
He has no idea.
Ever since we kissed that night, it's all I think about and now, again like this. His taste is still fresh in my mouth. The memory of his tongue as it swiped against mine. His hand in my hair...
"I can't give you what you want," I say, pulling back from his hold.
His eyes lower to the visible dent in my pants but I don't care to hide it. So what I am turned on, the kiss was amazing but, it's can't go further than this.
"You want me too, right? I bet we can..."
His phone rings and I thank the heavens for small mercies. I really can't stand to be this close to Bible a second longer.
"I'll be there in a second," he speaks into the speaker and I push into my seat, and get as far away from him as I can in the small space. He speaks a little longer into his phone before hanging up.
"You should go," I say before he can say anything.
"Yeah, I am leaving but maybe later I can come over to your place and..."
"No."
"... hang out," he finishes.
"No, Bible. I told you that this can't happen."
"Please let me come over. I'll bring dinner and I promise to keep my hands to myself all night unless you say otherwise."
I start to deny his request when his phone rings again but this time, he ignore it. His eyes watch me with an intensity I've only come to associate with him.
"You need to answer that," I say, licking at my dry lips and the move draws his attention to them.
"They can wait."
"No, they can't," I say, resigned but I see there's no moving him. "Fine you can come over, but, there'll be no touching."
"Kissing..."
"None of that either," I say sternly.
He nods at my words and reaches for the door but I grab his arm before he can leave.
"Bible, I have no idea what you're playing at and even worse, I have no idea why I'm entertaining you but you need to focus on your career. You are twenty four, you can't start getting distracted now..."
"You are not that much older than me," he argues.
"That's not the point. Just... just focus on your career okay, if everything pans out, at least you'll have your career to fall back on."
He nods tightly before leaving. I watch him walk into the building before pulling out to go to my own appointment. I spend the entire day at my labels office discussing new projects and soon, I lose sense of time.
The meeting goes so well that I am in a great mood as I drive home, humming a new tone that keeps popping in and out of my head. I don't remember about the plans I made with Bible until I am pulling over at my house to find him waiting for me.
He, on the other hand, doesn't look like he's had a great day.
I find him seated just outside my gate with a kicked puppy look on his face and I don't have guess how his day went.
I wait until we are inside to speak. "I thought you were bringing dinner with you,"
I take off my guitar case and lean it against the wall before turning to Bible.
"I wasn't sure what to order so I thought I'd wait for you."
I scoff at his words. "Bible, it's not like you don't know what I like, we've eaten together before."
"I know," he says, looking away and I sense something is bothering him. I take a step into his direction and cover the distance between us.
"Hey, what's wrong?"
"I thought about not coming tonight," he says and that's enough to have me taking step back but he grabs my arm, stopping me. "No, it has nothing to do with you. It's just... I'm tired Jeff."
"You should have texted and..."
"No, I can't have you thinking that I've had a change of heart or something. Besides, it's not that kind of tired. The last couple of months have been the best of my life but straining mentally. You are probably used to the spotlight and wouldn't understand."
"You're wrong," I say, running my fingers along his stubble. "I mean it's been a while since I felt that way but I was once newbie to the industry as well, I totally get you."
"You know what would make me feel better?"
There is a teasing glint in his eyes that has me pushing away from the impossible man. We can't even have a serious conversation without him ruining it.
"I'll order some dinner then grab a shower." I say reaching for my phone and scrolling through the food app.
"Jeff," Bible calls out to me when I am at the foot of the stairs.
I stop and look up. He really is a handsome man, dressed in all black and with a look equally as dark. As much as I try to fight it, I am flattered that this hank of a man had a crush on me.
"What do you need?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to say thankyou. For not straight out rejecting me when I told you about my feelings or kicking me out when I came knocking last night and, for today."
I let out a sign, fully turning to face him. "Despite everything, we are friends first. No?"
"We are..."
"Then you have nothing to thank me for. I've already paid for the food so just grab it when it gets here."
I head up stairs to get cleaned up. Very conscious of the man I've just left in my living room.
I can't help but wonder what'll happen tonight.
