BIBLE
Miles's home is a fortress, I think when he lets me in.
This is the first time visiting his home despite working with him before. I realize that he is a bit like Jeff in that most of his personal life is really private.
When he called me this morning to meet me, I had been a little reluctant to see him after what happened last night but Jeff had encouraged me to go.
"Wow," I exclaim when Mile leads us to his living room. Everything about his home screams money.
"I didn't think you'd come, would you like some wine?"
"It's ten am, Mile. Beside, I am still nursing a hangover and would rather have a coffee instead."
"Sure, I'll brew you some," he says walking away and soon, walks in with a large mug of coffee. I thank him and almost weep after the first sip.
"Oh lord, this is delicious."
"Better than Jeff's?"
His question has me pausing in my track. I place the coffee down and turn to look at him. Mile has this sophisticated look about him and even though we are not close, we get along pretty well.
"Why did you call me here, Mile?"
"I wanted to apologize about last night."
"Why would you feel the need to do that? It's not your fault..."
"No, I know that but I'm not totally faultless. Apo told me about you and Jeff in confidence and I shouldn't have brought it up. I just never expected your reaction to be..."
"Explosive?" I fill up for him.
"Exactly. If you must know. I did all I could to cover up for you. I told everyone at the table that the person you had a crush on was my sister and that was why I teased you about it."
"I didn't even know you had a sister."
"No one does, and that's the point, Bible. Still, I apologize for my careless words."
I let out a sigh and nod at his words. To be fair, I overreacted a tad and the alcohol hadn't helped matters.
"It's fine, forget about it," I say, reaching for my coffee.
"So, is it safe for me to ask whether Jeff and you are officially a thing?"
"I thought you said Apo told you..."
"He didn't go into details. So, are you?"
"I..." I chew at my lip and think of what exactly I should say to him. Jeff and I haven't discussed what we should tell our friends incase they asked about us. "Well, I like him. Whether or not he likes me back is for him to say."
Mile chuckles at my non answer but doesn't push for more.
My phone pings with a text and when I check it, it's from my manager reminding me about the shoot. I let out a sigh. Despite Jeff's assurance that he doesn't care, it bothers me a little at the thought of being touched by another man.
"I need to leave," I say getting up. "Thankyou for the coffee, Mile."
"Are you sure you are okay?"
"I am fine," I say as he too gets up and walks me to the door. I start to leave but he grabs my arm before I can leave. I look back to meet his eyes.
"You are going to break a lot of hearts when people learn of your relationship."
"And by 'fans' do you mean business deals?"
He lets go of my hand and flashes me a smile before dipping his hands into his pockets. I walk back to the car, his words ringing in my head but it's not me I'm worried about.
The thought of costing Jeff his career leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I want him, so bad, but not at the expense of his career.
As I pull out of Mile's home, I can't stop the doubts that creep in.
