Chapter 29

DEZ'S P.O.V

We finally arrived at my parents house. This was the moment of truth! I didn't even make it to the door before my mom opened screaming!

"OH MY GOD! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? I'M SO SURPRISED!"

Before I know it my mom is squeezing the hell out of me.

"Hey Mom! How are you?!"

She wouldn't let go she kept on hugging me. I gave Callie a look and she silently laughed.

"Oh my goodness you're glowing Destiny!" she said as she let me go.

"Well thank you! You'r-"

"ENRIQUE!" my mom yelled, cutting me off. She was calling my father.

My mom is black and my father is Puerto-Rican. I think I mentioned that already. My dad came to the door with this huge smile on his face.

"Is that my little princess?" he asked as if I was 4 years old.

"I'm not so little anymore Padre!"

Since my dad is Puerto Rican, he insisted that I call him Padre growing up. I remember as a child he would never answer me if I called him Daddy or Dad. This was his way of teaching me Spanish. My mom separated us, "Okay Okay that's enough. You guys come in and Destiny please introduce us to your friend." she said pointing to Callie.

I could tell by my Mom's voice that she was only trying to be polite. She must be thinking Callie is my girlfriend. My mom did NOT accept the fact that I liked women. My dad, on the other hand was very accepting. Almost too accepting! One time he tried to take me to a strip club for my birthday. It was the most awkward thing ever. He told me privately that I was the son he never had. I'm really worried about his reaction more than my moms when I tell them I'm pregnant.

We all walked in the house which smelled so good. My mom really knows how to throw down in the kitchen.

"You guys must be starving and it's so funny that you just got here because dinner's almost ready." my mom said.

Callie and I looked at each other in agreement. "Yeah Mom we're hungry but I'm sure there's not enough food for us."

My mom gave me one of those looks that only a mother gives you. "Now Destiny...you know every time I cook there's enough for everybody." I playfully rolled my eyes, "Oh yeah, of course. How can I forget?

"Just a couple more minutes and it's done. We're having Chicken Parmesan but of course the way Padre likes it." she said, rolling her eyes.

Chicken Parmesan the way Padre likes is just like regular Chicken Parmesan except we use homemade salsa instead of marinara sauce. It's super delicious! I had to explain that to Callie.

"Yep that's the way I like it!" Padre said. "So what brings you here so unexpectedly? my mom asked as she sat next to Padre. I took a deep breath...

"Well first I wanted to introduce you to Callie. Callie? Mom and Padre. Mom and Padre? Callie. "Hi Callie!" they said together with big smiles on their faces. "Hello!" Callie said. "It's good to be here you have a lovely home."

"Callie is my soon-to-be sister-in-law."

The smiles on my parents' faces vanished immediately and they both sat up.

"You're getting married!?" Padre asked. I looked at Callie and she was staring at me funny. Then it hit me that I just told my parents that I'm engaged even though I'm technically not....

"I don't see a ring on your finger!" my mom said with the biggest attitude ever.

Callie laughed and it made me laugh. Eventually my we all started laughing at my mom.

"Okay look that's not what I came her to tell you."

"So...you're...NOT getting married?" Padre asked again.

"Padre please let me finish. I met someone a couple of months ago. We've been dating ever since. This person proposed to me...and I accepted."

I could tell my parents were about to shoot questions at me but I gave them a look to let them know I wasn't finished.

"This person that I'm engaged to.....is a man."

This information really mad their jaws drop. Then I decided to just let everything out really quickly.

"His name is Austin Rivers, he's 22 years old. He's a professional basketball player in the NBA. Plays for the Los Angeles Clippers. Callie here is his older sister and she's here with me today because what I really came here to tell you is that I'm pregnant with Austin's child."

I blurted out all of this information so fast that the room got dead silent. The oven went off. Dinner was ready. The room was still silent and my parents' jaws were still dropped. I decided to speak finally,"Okay! Let's eat!"
