I stayed as still as I could.
Could it be? Could there really be another human being in this wasteland? Could it be a companion? A leader? A friend? A saviour?
No.
No, no, no. This was a trick of my imagination. I had been in this wasteland for way too long that now I was finally going crazy. My head was playing evil tricks on me.
It had to be my imagination.
There was no way that somebody else could've survived the fall of F.E.A.R and made it out intact. There was no explanation for a person to be completely fine after what happened in the ruins of this church.
But the noise was still there and it kept getting going. I could hear the clicks against the stones and dirt. They were muffled by my sobs.
I could barely hear the noise over my screeches of pain.
The imaginary sound, because there was no way for another person to be here with me. No way.
I closed my eyes tight shut and rocked myself back and forth in the fetal position I was in. I wasn't going to let ny mind take over.
No way.
But the noise wouldn't go away. It kept getting louder and faster. The clicks were sharp and heading my way.
Thoughts of F.E.A.R. soldiers running my way flooded my head and I started to scream louder. They were hear again and this time I was weak. They were going to get me.
"No! Go away, you bastards!" I screamed into the open air as I kicked in every direction.
They weren't going to take me alive. They weren't going to tame me. I wasn't giving in but I could feel them coming. They were getting so close.
"Please! Go away!" I cried in a hushed whisper.
My body was tensing up. I could feel all of my muscles pulling together as I forced myself into the tightest ball I could manage.
The clicks were now just feet away and the feeling in my chest grew and grew with every click. Tears rolled down my cheeks just like they had been doing for the past days and I felt my chest getting tighter.
"It's not real Michelle. It's not real..." I murmered over and over as I rocked myself to and fro, trying to reassure myself. "It's not real. It's not-"
There was a tap on my arm.
The clicking had stopped.
My eyes flew open as I let out a blood-curling shriek.
"Whoa! Calm down!" The deep voice of a boy filled the space where there used to be silence.
The sound of my cries died in my throat as I gazed up at the boy.
He was tall, looming over me. His eyes were the most clear and sparkling blue I had ever seen. They were like the sky but... better. Way better. And his hair the color of ravens. Dark and shiny; a beautiful caricature of the night sky.
I stared at him blankly just admiring the features of another human. It had been so long since I had seen another of my kind and looking at him was a gift for my eyes.
"Are you okay?" He asked in a concerned tone looking down at me with those eyes.
I stayed silent.
"What's your name?" He asked accepting the fact that I was probably not going to answer his previous question.
Or maybe he had realized the obvious. That no. I was most certainly not okay.
"Michelle..." I whispered finally.
As soon as I said my name his eyes seemed to roll back into his skull. They were glowing an unatural white that freaked me the fuck out.
I stared in amazement as his body bent backwards and he fell to the floor at an angle. His small moans of discomfort gave me an eerie feeling. This didn't seem normal.
I mean, it has been a long time since I've seen another human but I don't think it's normal for us to do these things.
He was gasping for air, like he was chocking. I wanted to help but I didn't know how. So, all I did was stare at him in complete helplessness.
He twitched on the ground for about ten more seconds until the air returned to his body in a big breath of air. His eyes rolled back to their normal place and stopped glowing.
I sat there, looking at him come back to life. He stared back it me with his mouth slightly open.
"Come with me..." he whispered.
"Where?"
"Come with me..." he repeated breathlessly. "You need to see some people."
We stared for another minute until he stood up and offered me a hand. I took it but as soon as I stood up I collapsed back onto the floor.
I guess lying on the ground without moving for days didn't quite help the circulation in your legs.
"How long have you been lying on the floor like that?" He asked trying to help me back up again.
I shook my head. "I stopped counting after 3 days."
"Goddamn..." He murdered as he picked me up bridal style. "It's going to be a long way to where we need to go, and you look very tired. Go to sleep and I'll wake you up when we get there."
"No I-"
"Trust me. Just sleep now, okay?" He asked again sweetly looking upon me with those perfect blue eyes.
"Okay... yes okay." I whispered finally.
As soon as I closed my eyes I realized how tired I was. I hadn't sleeped in a really long time and in a matter of seconds, sleep took me over and I rendered unconscious.
