27. Not worthy

The stadium got louder by the minute. Normally I would hate this noise, but something was different today. Wild wing came over, to carry me onto the ice. The entire team was puzzled at his action. It got even more bizarre, as he held me close to him.

"What are you doing?!"

"N/A, you love me don't you?"

I nodded, feeling a little unsecure. He lowered his mask, so his beak could touch my lips. For an entire minute, the stadium got still. The feeling of his beak caught me off guard. Overwhelmed how it makes my legs feel weak, I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed back. That is as the atmosphere went back to the normal sound of people cheering. His team was just as shocked, not expecting for this to happen...in public. Even his manager almost chokes on his soft drink. It didn't take long, till it became the story of the month. Television, newspapers, magazines and many more sides were discussing only about one thing: Duck loving human, how is that possible?

It was supposed to be a surprise, but it turned out to be a disaster.

Not only Wild wing, but even I was disappointed of how the world has seen it. Love can get anyone and you can love anyone, so what the hell is their problem? Only one human didn't take it so bad...he saw his chance to make money and become famous. Wild wing promised him an investment and by hell, he got it. I didn't leave his bunk for a while, fearing those who judge our relationship. Wild wing didn't feel any better, but tries his best to support me. This whole situation has gotten to the goalies heart, giving him low self esteem. He doesn't even see himself as a good leader anymore makes it even harder on the duck.

They haven't even see the Saurians or found out the hideout of the raptor.

For Wild wing a disaster. Duke assured him that he is a great leader and that Canard made the right decision for him to be their team captain. It didn't cheer him up. Tanya placed her hand onto his arm," Just forget the news for a while and concentrate on your relationship." The ducks didn't mind him to be with a human girl, they even support them both. Grin however, didn't find it wise to show his feelings to the world so soon and neither did Mallory. We haven't even been together for a few days and already we got trouble ahead, it wasn't a good start for us. Wild wing realized that this was a big mistake, but tries to make the best of it, "Let me know when you get a signal. In the meantime, I take care of N/A."

Something doesn't seem to let him have some quality time with me.

The screen activated, revealing a familiar face to the ducks. Wild wing was taken back, "Canard!" For a long time, he felt some sense of hope, gathering his team to get him. Nosedive doesn't feel right about it, "It feels like a trap bro."

"This is my best friend out there!"

Not only that, he saw a good chance for himself. If Canard takes over the role of the leader again, he can live with me without all the responsibilities in his way. Unfortunately, it was as Dive predicted: a trap. Chameleon tricked them into the mountains, stealing the Aerowing for their plan. Thankfully, they managed to get it back, but it was only a small effort for the ducks.

Wild wing never felt as useless as of now.

All he sees is putting his team in danger and ruining their chances of catching the Saurians. On top of all that, he felt not worthy to have a girl like me at his side. Back in the headquarters, he decided to quit. Nosedive couldn't believe what he is just saying, "Hey bro, you can't just leave like that!"

Mallory agreed on this, "What about N/A?"

Wild wing sighted, "She is better off without me"

Nonsense! You love each other; you can't just walk away without telling her!"

The surprise of the team, Duke defended him, "We can't tell him what to do. It is his decision and his alone."

Dive got worried, "What should we say to N/A?"

For Tanya was the only right answer, "The truth Nosedive" Grin offered himself for that conversation, knowing that he has a way of saying things. Dive came along, in case I might misunderstand his philosophy. It didn't go as they expected. The big duck expected me to go on a rampage and the young duck thought I would just leave too. But I surprised them in both ways. I sat there in silence, listening to them explaining the situation. By the time they finished talking, they waited for my reply. They feared of many things...but that I would laugh...was not on their minds. Who would laugh when they got dumped just now?

I got up from my seat, "Such a sweetie and yet an idiot. If Wild wing thinks he could dump me like that, then he doesn't know me that well."

Dive guessed that I would go after his brother, but I shook my head, "Nope, I will wait here."

"But he might never come back"

I was sure that this wasn't the case, "I know Wild wing, he is unsure about many things, but he would never let his team down. That is not like him. I am sure that he will be back soon. Trust me Nosedive." My decision even surprised the entire team. They are all behind me, hoping I was right. But for the current situation, they had no goalie for the team. I offered to be the one for practice, but for the games, I rather get a professional. Even Phil accepted it, until he failed being one himself. To make it a little harder for him, I advised Dive to push the manager against the wall. Now it was his job to find a suitable goalie. For the ducks was another major decision at hand. Who will be the next leader of the team? They all stared in my direction, as I waved my hands in panic, "No way, I refuse!"

Duke finds it a good idea, "But you are Wild wing's girlfriend."

"That doesn't qualify me as a leader"

Mallory sees a little problem at Duke's idea, "And she cannot wear the mask, only ducks can do that."Nosedive wanted to be the one, since he is the little brother of Wild wing. Now we all refused. Still discussing the issue, we received a call from Captain Klegghorn. Apparently some kind of plant is destroying the city and he thinks that the ducks are responsible for this alien type of thing. I stopped Dive from getting angry again, at the rudeness of humans. We had other problems, mainly who the new leader will be. Duke took over seeing himself suitable as the team captain. He even didn't mind me coming along. I decided to replace Wild wing in the meantime, helping out if possible.

The plant was already spreading in an inhuman speed, destroying anything in town. We know that the main roots are at the park, but we didn't know how to get there. Duke's order to take it on without thinking first was a disaster. He threw the mask towards us, while the plant took him somewhere. On more duck gone, we chose Tanya as new leader. But even she wasn't able to help out much or even giving orders. The only thing the engineer managed is to see a solution to kill the plant, but not how to get there. Mallory saw her chance, ordering us like she had done this before. For Nosedive was her range of vocabulary to advance for his brain. The increase of the plants growth has coughed us by surprise, not expecting it to invade the pond as well. It even reached the headquarters, where Tanya could make a gun ready for the plant. At this point, even Mallory's leadership had ended too soon, getting kidnapped by the tentacles. I raised a brow as Grin received the mask, sitting down and began to meditate. I faced Nosedive annoyed, "You are the last duck, give your best shot."
