It was Sunday and everyone was at the Brotherhood meeting. Altair was going over announcements at the front of the classroom. "Okay, so we still need more volunteers for the Boys and Girls Club. Basically, it's an after-school care program. We go over and just help take care of and tutor the kids. Just come up after and sign up. We will meet at the community center at 4 pm on Wednesday. That's pretty much it for the week and remember nothing is true and everything is permitted" Altair wrapped up.
"Hey, we should sign up. Volunteer work looks good on resumes'' Evie offered.
"That sounds good to me," Arno agreed.
Everyone else nodded but Aveline. "Sorry guys but Gerald and I are going on a date" she smiled.
"Nice," smiled Eivor. He still needed to talk to Randiv about everything. Everyone else went to the front and signed up.
Wednesday rolled around and Aveline let the group borrow the SUV for the volunteer event. Everyone arrived and walked in. The community center had chairs and tables for crafts or tutoring. Then over in another room was a basketball area for kids to play and shoot hoops. Children were running everywhere and playing with each other. There were also assortments of sporty toys everywhere.
"Hey, guys!" Altair greeted "let me pair you up with the kids." Altair started reading off a clipboard. "Evie you will be with Clara for arts and crafts. Arno, you will be with Leon for playing games. Eivor you will be paired with Reda for Arts and Crafts also. Then Jacob you will be with Jack. Apparently, Jack has had socializing problems so were hoping you could help since you're the most social"
"Ohh okay" smiled Jacob proud that he was the special one.
"Don't let it go to your head" Evie rolled her eyes. The last thing she needed was for Jacob to think he was better than everyone.
Evie and Eivor walked over to the table where Clara and Reda joined them. Evie thought Clara looked similar to her when she was younger. Clara had a green dress and two braids. Reda had darker skin and had an elaborate outfit on.
"Hello, how do you do?" Clara stuck her hand out and Evie shook it.
"I'm wonderful" Evie was impressed at this young girl's manner; she could not have been older than ten.
"Hey I'm Reda" Reda waved to Eivor.
"I'm Eivor" he introduced himself. Everyone then sat down at the table.
"Okay Evie and Eivor. Reda and I need you to help us make Opal pieces" Clara looked at both of them with a dead serious look in her eye.
"Wait like the stone," Eivor said confused. Wasn't the kid supposed to be crafty?
"I knew he wouldn't get it," Reda rolled his eyes. "We use this playdough" Reda held up some white Playdough "and we mix it with this white glitter" Reda then pushed the glitter towards Eivor and Evie. "We then make coin size pieces and then Clara uses her easy bake oven to make the Opal."
"We use the Opal as a currency at school for our shop. You can exchange it for hall passes, homework passes, late passes, bathroom passes, dessert vouchers, jewelry, pens, pencils, and other types of supplies. Heck you can even pay other students to do your work if you have the right amount" explained Clara. She and Reda created the market to help students and themselves. They were able to forge passes since Clara was an office assistant. Reda could also barter for passes with the Opal from students if a teacher just happens to give them out.
"Wow I'm really impressed right now," Evie said almost speechless.
"Thank you now, get going and make sure to add this" Clara pulled out a stamp of a dollar sign "to each coin in the center. It helps us make sure there is no counter fit. We can't have people ripping us off"
